I've had an oil leak for a while which does leave a tiny amount of oil on the driveway. A garage told it was leaking at the crankshaft and that the gearbox would have to be dropped to fix. Also something about blowing oil back into the..something.

reason I can't remember exactly what he said is because i had just been way overcharged  (a long story) by them for something else, And was seriously pi**ed off when i left. Anyway, I've kept an eye on the level everyday and it's fine. But it's a constant worry to me 'til I get it fixed. Is dropping the box the only way to repair it?

Gearbox must be dropped, as its the crankshaft seal between the gearbox and block.

If left too long it could end up burning the clutch out.

lol, presume you mean just the seal!

Fraid so mate, as with most jobs the labour is the killer!

Unless you do it yourself?-not a bad job really.

The seal is only about £20.

Its just £120 ish for some one to put it on. :(

cheers guys, glad I asked as now I have some idea of the cost involved, and my engine isn't going to go pot in the next few weeks.

LOL yeh ive got to do it this weekend.Ive got a RPS lightened flywheel,6 pock RPS clutch, and short throw gearlever to put on,the only thing thas missing is the new manual box.Im just hoping my auto will get me there to pick it up tomorrow as its missing gears like buggery.

Does anyone Know if a manual box will fit in the back of a SWB? LOL

when you say leak i take it you mean at the rear [main seal]

if its the crank seal at the front sprocket is a lot easier remove rad, covers pulley wheel and crank sprocket replace seal!
