Started with a mini convoy of chunk and madhamster, slick pete and me from some services just outside Leicester at 7.30am! Took it nice and slow to santa pod with pete having a little play with lovely skyline we saw in the last couple of miles (the skyline ran an 11.5 later that day). Met stevej when we got there.

I didn't have a clue how things worked so pete ran through literally EVERYTHING with me  and I managed to get 5 runs in before lunch! :hyper:

How slippery is that surface?! It's soooooo smooth compared to a road! I struggled to get good traction in 1st and 2nd all day but started off with 14.391, not bad for my first ever go. Ran a couple of 14.3s and 14.1s, gradually improving throughout the day. Except for a 17.0 i ran because i didnt have 1st gear for some reason

The rain came just before lunch and ate into the running time after lunch, only managed 2 more runs before the rain came again and they decided to call it a day.

Ran 13.929 on my last run and im well chuffed :D , never thought i'd get into the 13s with my mods (boost jets, chip, filter, 19" wheels, very hard suspension and everything in the car)

Saw a few other 300s there, only managed to meet davec and scratchuk, pity it was such a poor turn out for what promised to be a big meet.

Big thanks to pete for the tutorial, and chunk for the directions home lol :slap:

I had an absolutely brilliant day!

£75 in total before I buy food and drinks.

Good day, unfortuantly they will be few and far between for me :(

nice one Yas! Quite a good laugh when you get going huh. Impressive time too buddy!

Nice one bud! So what your mods at the mo? If you get a cf prop, let me know how that goes. I very nearly bought one about a year back. One piece?

Yas tells me the pod is a bit on the slippy side?

One piece?

Yup! Due to land tomorrow at MJP direct ship from Stillen.

Lookin forward to having it fitted. Also NEED to fit my ACT Street N Strip Clutch now!

Yas tells me the pod is a bit on the slippy side?

13.929 at 102.02 = TT time

2.35 60ft

14.926 at 92.54mph = NA time

2.106 60ft

I'm know nothing about doing 1/4 miles, but doesn't this show that really if you drive an NA with attitude it's not really THAT much slower than a TT? A second at a quarter mile isn't really a lot in the grand scheme of things.

When you do a quarter mile is there a law of diminishing returns? - you need a lot of mods to make a little bit of difference. Is it hard to get under 13 seconds unless you've got big power?

Sarge, Hopefully its not as bad as i thought!! It'll be OK for the 9th :)

Rich, Pete's NA is quite tuned and has alot of weight reductions! A stock NA should do about 15.8 - 16.2 ish!

To get a TT into the 12's is fairly easy, just lots of hard work and getting everything setup right, so far im on a 13.04 @ 108.9 mph, but i fluffed my start, so im hoping to get a 12 on the 9th at the Japshow :D, try to come along buddy!

Pete - what mods have you done to the engine? What kind of weight reduction is chunk talking about? How much is in there to get rid of? Spare wheel, seats?

I dont' think I'd ever have the bottle to actually take the car onto the strip, but I would like to come watch what happens.

LOL, no matey, nowt up with that, its majorly overfuelling and i think the CAS is given up the ghost!

But it'll be there at the Japshow :D

A lot of the NA info is slowly building up in the newly established NA tuning forum.

You will see reference there to my weight loss program and some other threads with tuning info etc.

Its really only in the past year that NAs are starting to be recognized as a distinct model in their own right.

And maybe drag racing too is starting to be seen for what it is also.

Ie a highly technical and interesting form of motorsport. Low costs and ease of access are big points in its favour. A great leveller of pride too for the unwary!!!

Many on this forum boast enlessly about how powerful their cars are and how many horsepower they have(all backed up by huge spec sheets and dyno charts.)

Few of them however seem to be able to demonstrate all this against the clock.

Cos as you know... "when the flag drops.... the BS stops..."

So please come along and have a look. Chunk, myself, Steve J and the other few regulars will make you welcome.

The offer is always on the table to join "Slick Petes Newbie Lessons"

You only have to ask!

And lest I forget... They also sell Pukka Pies and HOOOGE Long dogs in the

caff. :duffer:

OCT 9th at da POD???? Bring it on!!

Rich, i ran against pete and he has a brilliant launch, he was 3-4 car lengths ahead of me before my tubs spooled up. Having very stiff suspension and 19s dsnt help with traction either.

1 sec may not sound like much but it works out to about a 50m lead and i got whooped by a new M5 that ran a 12.4 and that was miles ahead of me!

Really sorry I mised this one, I wanted to be there but again the car was not ready in time, so I pi--ed of on holiday for two weeks.

I dont just hope to be there on the 9th, I know I will be there on the 9th..

I had an NA with exhaust, chip and intake. The two main points about the car were it didn't feel like it would self-destruct any second, and it was manual. Now I have a TT auto, and it's very different. The NA manual makes you feel the power directly, it's right there and you have to use the gears to get it, whereas the TT auto - the power is there but for me it feels more unpredictable when it will come, and with the auto not so much choice in selecting the gear to use the power. What I mean is you just bung your foot down and wait till it takes off.

I will never chase big bhp but I suppose I have never thought about how much in terms of distance 1 second is, so until I see it happening I don't have a frame of reference.

A day at any drag strip whether it be a full pro meeting or just a RWYB day will allow you to see and think about all this ..power-weight-speed stuff.

I personally find it all fascinating and I think you might too.

1 second to a top fuel car means its probably travelled 100metres!!!

That same 1 second to a nervous newbie probably means he/she has just about got moving. :nelson:

Welome to my world.

Is it hard to get under 13 seconds unless you've got big power?

Awww shucks!!!!

Your embarassing me. ;)

was an excellent day at the pod

really enjoyed it - was a bit daunting at first, first time you try and figure out the lights but great fun :hyper:

was really interesting to see the mix of cars that were there as well from your everyday audi A3s and volvos to the american muscle cars and modified motors!! great day out even if your not running!

bit of a shame a few more couldnt make it but was really good to meet up with those that went, definately be there for japshow :D

has def given me back the modifying bug
