Hi all,

Sorry this isn't directly Z related. My other half wants to import a Figaro from Japan via a company called 'Algy's autos' - anyone heard of them or dealt with them? Any feedback would be most useful.

Apparently they respray them to your specification (barbie pink - OMG!), new hood, full service, new leather interior etc. I think the work is done in Cyprus on the way over here during a stop off from Japan. Not cheap at just under £7K!

I'm a little concerned as the importers are asking for her details, driving licence etc for customs purposes - it seems to me like her resposibility once customs have her official details, I can just imagine it being stuffed with charlie under her name so any problems and she takes the rap!?

Has anyone imported in a similer way? Should she/I be worried or is this normal procedure??

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Best regards,

RobH

Ok, cheers guys, I'd be pretty nervous if I was her. So presumably all the dealers with 'fresh' imports sat on their courtyards have had to register them to their business or under their own name?? I s'pose it sounds reasonable that you'd prefer to be the first registered keeper rather than the dealer owning it and being the second recorded keeper yourself...

no thats crap. customs dont give a toss who pays for the import costs, or who owns it.

You register the car with the DVLA any time you like after its been imported. so can sit on a forecort and not be in ANYONES name. then once sold the new owner can have it reisterd in his/her name and be the first uk owner.

As an importer of very many cars from Japan over the last 5 years, my advice would be to buy as good a vehicle as possible direct from the Japanese auctions, have it shipped and look at it in its original state. If you subsequently want to respray at least you will know what you gave purchased, they are not that expensive in Japan.

Just had a look on all the Jap auctions there are 11 being auctioned this week, four are grade 4 (very good condition) and one grade 4.5 (as good as you can get) Mileages are as low as 21,000 36000 and 39000 Kilometers thats only 13,000 miles. So you would be better going for something like that.

There are also 129000 Km vehicles in poor condition, as they are respraying them I suspect this is what you may get.

They are here:

Good luck!

Surely if its worth 7K then it wouldn't need all the new bits?

Hi, 7K buys the car with all refurbishments. My guess is they buy right old sheds and do 'em up. Probably off the scale for auction grading. What can I say, she's buying on the strength of the colour....

I would use Leigh in the traders section, he is a top fella and will not rip you off!

Cheers guys but it's a done deal, she's put her deposit down and now we just have to keep our fingers crossed that she hasn't bought a pup! Before anyone asks - no, there was no stopping her, I've been rehearsing 'I told you so' for when it's needed...

Cheers!
