pioneer ive never had any problems with them and they have many settings/ feture to play with quite user friendly ...i hate kenwood they seem to have a really bad bass output.

but alpine if i had the money to upgrade but would have to be excess of £600 ones to draw my attention away from what i already have

Pioneer all the way although i did have one of the sony mp3 ones when they first came out and it was the mutt's nuts, loadsa pre outs, about a million settings and always crisp, clear sound at all frequencies.... only £150 too :D

Id go with Pioneer, never had any problems with my old one until it was about 6 years old, i'd still rate it as good if not better then most you can buy now, they look good, easy to use and have many functions

I have a pioneer setup in the corsa ( :slap: ) and it works fine... now the manual says it is the 1992 model, and it still works fine. It's a 6 cd changer with a tape deck in the head unit, both working perfectly. The head unit has loadsa features too, like an on/off button and as it's the later model also comes bundled with a volume control :D

I chose Kenwood because i just like the look of them and without a doubt they dont make bad stereo's. I use a basic head unit in my ZED and apart from the desperate need of some decent speakers I am pleased.

Always had Alpine, but Pioneer are great, Nakamichi are very good, but ugly as fook!!

Sony MEX-1HD - The best head unit thats not a dvd player/screen etc... You can get 'em fairly cheap now too. I wouldn't have anything else now!

:smw:

Nak CD700mk2 for me plz. or a McIntosh.. but they look a bit dated!!

My brother in law has loads of 8-track

players and hundreds of tapes if

anyones interested :smash: :smash:

always used Sony. good units, do what there meant to do without too many idiot lights & buttons

I've got a H&B CA-5555 CD/MP3 player

Good points:

SD/MMC card slot (I got a 2Gig card in there)

USB slot, (for plugging in flash disks)

Pretty nice looking,

decent quality sound (45w*4)

Woofer output

Phono Aux input (for laptopns, ipods etc).

All the standard radio features (RDS, Traffic etc)

I got it for only £83 online (can't remebre from where, but you should be able to search for it).

Bad Points:

Does occasionally have trouble reading MP3's from CD, especially if you've got over 80 or so in s single directory, annoying as it just turns itself off suddenly and loses all your EQ and radio settings. No problems like that with the memory card though.

Also, it can't read M3U playlists, but if you use Itunes to burn your MP3 cds, not really a problem.

And apprantly not all Flash discs fit in the USB slot, but i've never used that anyway.

I've had a couple of Kenwoods and Blaupunkt and they are fine. However when i bought my latest C70 the sound quality of the sound system is amazing. the best I've ever hear.

OK is got a 600 watt amp and 12 speakers, but it is simply awesome. So I had to find out who made the system for Volvo and it is Alpine. + Most new alpine system come with Ipod docking stations so it can be run via the head unit and you can ditch the CD and Mini disc changers. So my Kenwoo system is going and a proper Alpine system is going in. One with a proper individual bass, treble and balance/fade knobs and 12 matched speakers.

use panasonics , because

1. they dont look bad, pretty good infact!

2. they sound good ( most important )

3. I get them at cost!!!!

cheapie cheapie..

What stereo ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

I've got an Alpine that has so many features and gizmos I have no idea how to set it up lol, so I'm putting my Blaupunkt back in, that was a great sound and easier to use. I'm going to put the Alpine in the Xantia and I have a Sony flip down thingame in the Civic! I love my head units

Out of all the different brands I have had over the years (Sony, Pioneer, Blaupunkt, Alpine and Rockford Fosgate) I can say in my opinion Sony build some great sounding head units and with ease of use a great bonus, so you don't have to change the settings every song to get it sounding right like I found with the Alpine.

One good thing I did use on the Alpine was a Sub contoller on t he head unit so you could adjust it through the headunit rather than getting in the boot to do it. That is very handy!

Alpine head unit and pioneer speakers, cant beat the mix!!
