Catch me on MSN mate and we'll get it sorted.

I'm almost sure it is caused by a virus/trojan/spyware.. If I would be you I would first try a anti-spyware program (i.e. Spybot Search & Destroy / Ad-Aware etc) If it doesnt help I would go for a clean install of Windows. Its always nice to start from a clean table, and your computer feels much faster :)

I agree, suspect trojan or virus. Have you got upto date anti virus software?

Mate that happend to me a few weeks back. mine had the server usisng up 99% of the CPU. asked mates and no body knew at it could be. so resolved it by formating ma hardrive. lik new now.

hehe

be carefull if you decide to format your hard drive. I had to do mine 3 times in a row to sort mine out. Try to find out what type of virus you have. I had a trojan dropper virus it was a nightmare to get rid of as it worms its way into your operating program which formatting alone wont repair. Try http://www.grisoft.com and http://www.scan-fix.com. you can get some downloads to help you out from there.

The operating system will go when you format the hard drive :D Did you quick format or format properly? A propper format and windows rebuilt will sort it no problems mate!

did a complete F-disk and re-formatted harddrive 3 times still did'nt remove virus .

By formating your hard drive you will erase everything on it (you are still able to retrive it, but nothing can run by itself from the formated sectors)

Never connect a newly formated Windows box to the net before you've installed a firewall and a anti-virus software on it, anti-spyware is higly recommended too.

Indeed my personal recomendation would be norton internet security, seems to be the fastest in my experience, as i have had a lot of anti virus programs which eat resources, make the pc run like a slag and eat up bandwidth!

In the mean time, a low level format and windows rebuild should be sufficient. Windows xp isn't secure on it's own and the built in firewall doesn't appear to be all that effective!
