I'm looking into importing some parts from the states.

ย

What is the process and costs involved???

ย

from the supplier right to my door?

Most companies will use the services of likes UPS who usually attach an invoice to the package. This way customs will work out the import duty. If the seller will be prepared to package the goods as a gift or put a really low value on the goods and send the invoice separate, then you can get away without paying duty.

ย

However if customs open the package and see two new shiney turbos with a value of $10 they will look into it. That happened to me and was a right f**k up.

ย

The goods ended up being posted back to the supplier. They then sent them back to me through the US postal service with no probs at all.

ย

Lots of money to be saved in the US though, not sure why but most things are a fraction of the cost. Same for me in Canada, I'm loving it.

ย

Think its $50 for a package up to 8kg, that will be tracked and have recorded delivery through UPS. Postal service is cheaper I believe. VAT I guess is 17.5%

Andy.

always remember that good above 18 quid carry a customs taric and vat fees..

I bought some gold from the states last year was well cheap.......Until it hit the UK customs. then I had to pay almost the same for duty as I did for the gold? takes the piss in this the age of the internet? :xxx:

ย

Apparently you can get round it by asking the seller to send it as a gift and not a purchase?

nope sorry the gift thing doesnt work any more either, its customs discression now.

Why don't customs **** off? :(

What ever happeend to that proposed new price limit on duty charged. It was something like, you are allowed to import anything up to ยฃ1000 before duty charged. Not heard anymore on it going forward.
