Hi everyone

Sorry to join up only to ask for some advice but I was wondering if there was a way of being able to tell whether or not the front calipers are the lighter weight alloy ones the heavier cast ones?

I am thinking about buying a pair but want the alloy ones:

Also what sort of price is reasonable for a pair of these?

Thanks

Go for a brake upgrade mate, be worth it! There is a thread on here somewhere about EVO bake upgrades.

I did not know there was haevy weight and light weight they just look like standrd callipers to me.

I thought the calipers went from alloy to iron because the alloy ones kept warping.

The iron / steel (heavy) ones which were standard from series IV onwards didn't have the finning the earlier alloy callipers had.

Must admit I always believed the heavier UK spec calipers were the better ones as there was problems with alloy calipers warping.

I have a pair of the ally ones for sale and I'm in Cheshire every other weekend, we may be able to sort something out.

Who knows what a decent price would be ?

I also have a set of brand new Porterfield pads and some 2nd hand cross drilled bremo discs, which only have alittle wear on them.

Uh oh! Warping!!!

Anyone had experience of this?

If this seems a major problem I might have to change my plans! Although maybe with the lighter 200 being stopped instead of a 300 the heat generated may be less?

Mine are from a Jap spec Series II car, late '92 and they definitely haven't warped. Nor have I ever heard of anyone elses' warping. They look a bit nicer than the cast iron ones too.

AndyP would be interested to see what you'd take for the calipers - Are they in good condition - no signs of binding, have they been painted etc? Also what size are the disks? Any pics?

I wanted to PM you but I guess you have to be a paid up member on this forum to be able to do that!

In case you were wondering i'm the guy you first asked about calipers from, if you wanted to know all the differences and any problems they might have give you could have asked, i'm quite approachable, anyway unfortunatley they've sold and you may have missed a good op as mentioned they had been properly sorted as the car was built for the track, anyway i hope you find what you are looking for all the best Dodds

Calipers are fine, I'll clean them before I take a pic - they were on my car until a few days ago. I'd want you to look at the discs before you made an offer as they are cross drilled which can lead to cracking. However, these ones are genuine Brembo castings and were bevelled and stress relieved before installation. As far as I can tell they're fine. I'll take the pic tomorrow and email you.

Good man!

Email should work but if not it might be worth registering on the SXOC and PM me there via the link I posted earlier (I have the same username as on here)
