Seized Brake Caliper

Hi Everyone,

Got a bit of a problem with my Z... the front drivers-side brake caliper has seized up. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? My car is a 91 UK Spec, they look like they are made of aluminium (IIRC there were 2 different versions of calipers in 91?)

Also, is there a technique to getting the brake hoses off the caliper? They are on well tight!

I really want to get this fixed - I miss driving!

Cheers!

I'm sure someone will have or know of a source for a calliper. You could try one of the companies like SE or Xoticar or RC Developments that often swap standard for uprated callipers.

Getting the old hoses off can be tricky, I assume that it has corroded in so take the usual route of soak it with penetrating oil (Plus Gas is my fave, don't bother with WD-40 - that is a water dispersant, not a penetrating oil), get a spanner that really fits properly and once properly located tap the end with a club hammer. You could also try warming the area of the casting with a blow lamp or hot air gun as the differing expansion rates can help to crack the corrosion.

b4 u buy a new on if you remove the caliper from the disk and put some thing in it so the pistons dont pop out then pump the brake pedly it should move the piston that is how i un stick calipers also done it on the front of the z too just make sure you dont let the pistons come out or they are a pain it the arse to but back if you can get them back

this could b cheaper

alternativly you could get an seal kit and just mend your current caliper. But it would be easier to get a new caliper or used one.

Try these, I had a stuck caliper and managed to get both calipers for £40 off a chap off the forum..try posting in wanted bit loads of people have uprated there calipers for big conversions and probs have the old ones gathering dust in garage..if not try these----- http://www.japanese-car-parts.co.uk/links.htm

Hope helps
