Don't know of any from other cars that would fit, but Grant was looking into getting some made by a specialist company recently. The price was pretty reasonable too.

thanks for the reply andy do you know a rough price

I vaguely remember the price of something in the area of £320. I presume that is each. Why don't you drop him an email, his forum name is Grant.

Forge Motorsports would make one up but would need a pattern or an intercooler to copy.

Mark, Forge MotorSports quoted appx £360 inc vat or down to about £320 for a group buy of 5 or more. There is a pictur of a huge one for a Nissan GTiR on their site. Try this for starters. http://www.aluminiumfabrication.org.uk/Oil_Coolers___Intercoolers/oil_coolers___intercoolers.html

In order to get this done we need someone willing to take a car up there with bigger intercoolers to copy or take the intercooler.

Hey Grant,

I have a spare set of intercoolers that can b borrowed if needed, not a car though.Let us know as i too am interested. Is the price u quoted 4 a pair or a single intercooler?.

Regards,

borrowed? dude let me borrow it smile.gif

lol

anyways you should get this one

front mounted intercooler by hks, only thing is you should get ducted panel to allow air flow to the intakes

bloody hell! how big god knows how you get the bumper back on

Bet that costs some wonga!!!

Hey got an idea for you do you guys have the RB20DET avaibile in the UK ?????

if you do, Buy 2 side mount intercoolers the side mount intercoolers from an RB20DET have a local shop modify the end tanks to fit your car and there you have made a set of bigger Side mount intercoolers for you Z32

bigger than Stillen ones.

Check it out

but if you want a front mount intercooler new let me know the size you want.

Stillens catalogue gives a list of notional extra power per goody add-on. Seems to me that an extra 10bhp with bigger intercoolers makes big intercoolers one of the most useless add-ons for a road Z. Hardly worth the extra weight let alone the cost IMHO.

The point of intercoolers is not as a performance gain per se, its the added benefit in being able to supply more cool air, as well as the fact that an aftermarket intercooler will usually have more cores and more efficient cores at that. Also the fact that they are more necessary as you get bigger turbos or up the boost.

Its a bit like getting induction kits, without an exhaust, or just getting exhaust backboxes with standard centre sections (usually only applies to boy racers though).

Course its for more power - colder air is smaller means you squeeze more in. Its nothin to do with coolin the engine!

Point I am tryin to make is that there are lots of better things to spend money on before you get to intercoolers. Seems to me that you only need to go there if you are way way past the 400bhp point. Also you might need them past 550bhp with bigger turbos but by then I am not so sure your car will be nice to drive anymore with loads of turbo lag even if it'll go off the scale on the dyno.

Willie

I dont agree willio (not trying to start another war but

When air is compressed, it heats up; and when air heats up, it expands. So some of the pressure increase from a turbocharger is the result of heating the air before it goes into the engine. In order to increase the power of the engine, the goal is to get more air molecules into the cylinder, not necessarily more air pressure.

The intercooler further increases the power of the engine by cooling the pressurized air coming out of the compressor before it goes into the engine. This means that if the turbocharger is operating at a boost of 7 psi, the intercooled system will put in 7 psi of cooler air, which is denser and contains more air molecules than warmer air.

so if you raise your boost ideally you need to get more efficient intercoolers.

Lag by the way was nto an issue when i put big intercoolers on my car, never noticed any lag difference.

I am fully aware that intercoolers are nothing to do with cooling the engine, they are to cool the intake charge therefore yes, colder air = more oxygen molecules per unit of volumetric area. But just quoting a 10bhp increase is useless as larger intercoolers are for use in addition to other modifications which require them as stated, granted a more efficient intercooler will give slight increase over a less efficient cooler, but there is no point in having them unless other modifications are being done / have been done, which require them.

good point ay3388984754 they are pointless unless your modding

Good points made Warren, lets not forget though guys, if there is 1 place nissan fooked up on (until skylines) was I/C the S12 didn't get 1, the S13 got 1 size of a match box, the S14 only a little better and as for the Zed,i'm sure warren will agree, they are shite, very small, plastic end caps, very poor cores, anyone who goes beyond a simple boost upgrade, induction and exhaust, should improve the I/C The Stillen one's i don't like, they sit behind the indicator partially and do not have displacement plates fitted to ensure the cold air circulates the entire core, seriously this is something i have spoken about to many I/C manufactures about, our I/C are tested to be good for no more than 350bhp.

Have been waiting ages now for a fabricator friend to make me some upgrades, will hassle him this week and keep you posted, smithy

P.S. good to see you back Warren biggrin.gif

it's funny - the placcy end caps on ours remind me of the intercoolers on my 5 turbo.. they had a tendency to explode at anything above 18psi.. literally..

Isnt Stillen one of the authorities on whats worth doing to a Z?

I'm not arguing about the volumetric efficiency aspect - you just have to drive in an cold damp evening to feel the difference cold damp air makes to volumetric efficiency. Its just that they (Stillen)only quote 10bhp gain and of course thats after chip, intake and exhaust just for starters. Has anyone done before and after dyno runs with the intercoolers being the only differece to prove it. Stillens cat seems to argue that thats where their 10bhp figures come from and I think their ICs were much bigger than stock.

Also agree that if you go much past 18+psi you risk popping the standard ones or the hoses.

But short bursts of power must be fine with standard ICs before everthing heats up - who can use full power continuously anyway except on a track? Most of the time you just want 20 seconds worth! anyway what about water spray onto the ICs to cool them?

Do they fit under the standard nosecone? Can we use them to get a copy made?

Grant

Hmmm, don't fancy the airflow to the rads much after this !

I've had these a while now, approx twice the area size, & approx same thickness as std. But cant find an area in the front suitable

without cutting about a lot. Any ideas guys.

As i want to keep the bumper as std. intercoolers.jpg

Those look a lot like oil coolers harve? If they are, be aware that (IMHO) they'll have a *terrible* flow rate, and *diabolical* pressure loss...

Diesel turbo ones actually, 2.6 litre = 1 cooler. So i was thinking !!! maybe just maybe.

Harve you mean TD oil coolers or intercoolers? If they're intercoolers they have terrible end cap design - which just happens to be quite an important factor in making a good intercooler..
