I know a few threads have popped up about this recently, but today I have just started a new job within the same company servicing and repairing various things at well known superstores throughout the UK. Now I'm useless reading a map, and they only get you to the town you need to be in, nevermind getting you to the store. Today I went to Saffron Walden, Newmarket and Cambridge, and fook me if the bloke I was following learning the job from didn't have a GPS we'd have no chance.

So, what I need is something cheap and cheerful that tells me via audio and 3d screen where I need to go.

His one was a phone and GPS so no good to me.

Does anyone have any advice/suggestions/recommendations for a good portable unit?

I had a look today but my head hurts from all the different options!

Thanks guys :)

Tomtom GO, is a nice portable all in one option.

Alternative Smarphone with GPS or external GPS receiver, or a PDA/Pocket PC with bluetooth GPS receiver and TomTom Software.

tomtom mobile 5 on smartphone if u have one (nokia 6600 SPV c-500 etc) £200 all in!!

I bought a pda from makro it has a GPS antenna built in and was 200 quid, for 20quid I can get a SD card that is big enough to fit tomtom 5 on :D

its a nice bit of kit as it stands, has got me to long leat, lots of places in northampton and silverstone with no problems. means i will be coming to a few more meets further away also god forbid

I don't know about all that. All I want is a simple to use GPS system that doesn't need all that setting up and downloading etc.

Is this any good do you reckon?

Yep thats the TomTom Go (as i recomended above). If you want a simple, all in-one solution thats ideal.

That TomTom Go sounds nice, and it seemed to have good user feedback! Anyone know which countries it supports, and does new maps cost money or do you get them for free after you've bought the device?
