Hi picture the scene its christmas eve morning and i am tramming down a38 at 145mph take the Riply turn off then as i slow down there is a sudden grinding noise from the rear, i stop and saw under a pool of oil under the diff. The car is taken to my gararge where the guys will commence working on after xmas.

Question is ball park figure how much would a diff cost and is there any thing else that might raise its ugly head. Thanks for your help in advance.Chas

To be honest I've never heard of a 300 doing its differential in!!! Are you sure it's not the diff oil cooler or pipes, if it it's a uk car????

yES I AM SURE ITS THE DIFF,WHEN THE ENGINE IS OF AND YOU PUSH THE CAR BACK AND FORTH THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE COMMING FROM THE REAR AND NOW THE CAR IS UP ON YTHE RAMPS WHEN YOU TURN THE WHEEL BY HAND IT CLEARLY GRINDS FROM THE DIFF.THANKS CHAS

It WILL make a grinding noise if its out of oil though wink.gif Probably damaged beyond repair but where's the oil leaking from??? Is the oil leaking from the casing of the diff or one of the cooler lines????

Where abouts are you from? A38 Ripley turn off sounds very close to home. I live just down the road from Alfreton.
