Hi my mate has bought a 125cc bike but it wont go over 35-40mph. these bikes are supposed to do about 60 and this one has been sat in a garage a few months.

Is your mate a bit of a lard?

Which Make/Model is it?

Rich

hi mate tell me more about the bike? :D theres lots of different ones out there

and does it have plenty of power through the gears, or does it seem lethargic with acceleration too ?

who asked you guys :slap: Im trying to actually give some technical advice on something I know about.

keep out :D

Feiying 125cc cruiser type bike. Pull away fine but when it gets to 25 to 30 it starts spluttering.

Guessing thats a 4 stroke then?

If so, you will be lucky to see 55mph out of it, also if its been standing for a while, has he changed the fuel in it??

Stip the carb and ensure jets are clear, remove restrictor in exhaust, then sit it on the stand and rev nuts out of it, if its very smokey could be crap oil,too much oil, rings gone, to fix empty fuel, put new, in check oil is good stuff, comp 2 or that type, adjust oil pump, or change rings

yeh its a 4 stroke and it wont rev past 6000 rpm. Fuel blockage? He said when he revved the *****x off it a tiny bit of smoke came out the first time.

Id say fuel for sure!!

Get him to do a complete drain of the system, that should sort it :D

mate its only a four stroke 125 which produce very little power although should happily do the speed your asking for s something doesnt sound right...

1.. check oil for obvious reasons then the following..if bikes been standing..

the bikes petrol will have lost its octane and dont think its as simple as that these things use hardly any petrol so what was in the carb will have most likey jellified.... thus making your bike run like shit...

take plugs out and wire brush em till they shine like a mirror.. put em back

put 4 quid of shell optimax in there and leave it ticking over every so often giving it a good rev then take it out and blast it alittle to get the carb working opening and closing...

every so often hold it half way up its rev range....

this should work but its no quick thing patience patience!!! :D

empty fuel empty fuel and put fresh in its lost its octane and gone shit..

probably would barely ignite but I wouldnt try it

Just said half of the tank of fuel is 6 months old and he topped up the rest

there's yer problem IMHO!!

BAAAAAAAAAAD!!

Just flush the system and put fresh fuel in!!

Simple :)

yep, old petrol plays havoc with bikes. my mate bought a KH250, the petrol left in the float chambers resembles sticky goo........ lmao

hey you stole my answer I was just slower at answering :D

dink dank do!

personally if i had to take anyones advice (no offence guys) it would be our mr chunk's ..

mac told me about what you used to get upto chunk... the evil kenevil of the uk... on ur bikes lol

if its a carb bike id get that flushed out including the jets my vfr400r has just needed to have the tank emptied new plugs battery rectifier, clean carbs been stood for 8months :slap:

The best advice I could give would be....

....get a Cagiva Mito :D:D

MyMito.jpg

I could see a ton on it ;).
