We all see the huge amount of posts in the help and advice section which I must say has been a huge help when needed but it does make it look like Z's go wrong way too often. So lets see how reliable your Z's are. I'm not talking about things like annoying little squeeks etc I mean things that affect the everyday driving of your car.

Mine was a burst water pipe, hell to get at but only a few quid to fix. That was after a week of ownership.

Chris

Guess mines be reliable but I've done lots of preventitive maintainence. Replaced so many parts in the last two years that were about to wear out. I like to keep the car In as best condition I can before things break. Always get my parts from the states and do the work myself so aint that expensive to maintain.

Apart from exploding autoboxs mine has been great!!

Only other probs were nackered TPS and 2 small water leaks! :D

And as it gets raped quite a lot at Santa Pod etc etc and ive done 3400+ miles this year just going to meets it doesnt do bad!!

Well, mine is going off the road at the end of the month.

It needs....

*takes a deep breath*

New turbos

Main and big end bearings

tappets

02 sensors

New cats or knocked out

Exhaust repair or new exhaust as it's blowing

Oil and Water temp gauges fixing

Random boost problem fixing (probably caused by some or all of the above)

Wheels refurbing

Sort the dodgy headlamp as it's not sitting right

Fix wonky bonnet

Get fan surround fitted

God knows what else that I don't know about yet

And while it's off the road it will be getting...

Full re-trim

New steering wheel

Full homemade ICE install as it's all in there, but doesn't look pretty right now

Manual conversion

Chip and boost upgrade

New rear spoiler (not sure of the name but I know which one it is)

Wings west rear

Stillen sideskirts

'99 spec rear lights

Modify centre panel to light up "300ZX" in blue

Subtle blue neons (not fitted them yet...)

I've decided that as it'smy daily driver all this stuff just will not be done, so rather than carry on driving it around as it is and the problems getting worse, I've bought myself a little Civic to run around in starting 1st September...

So this Southend show will be her last outing for a while

But when my baby is back on the road she will be a different car altogether, and I will be doing it bit by bit, in my own time. I don't care if it takes 2 months or two years, I will have it just the way I want it or not at all...

Damn I will miss driving it though, but hey, I've seen the results some of you guys have come up with after sacrifice and hard work, and that's what I'm going to try and do

Does 9 hours welding count as maintainence??? = :headvswal. Driving it afterwards = :hyper: :hyper:

Joking apart you dont see many 1990 cars left on the road nowadays in the same condition as Zeds. Nissan certainly built these cars with quality in mind. I'm so glad that Vauxhall didn't make them. They would have all been scraped years ago.

apart from upgrades & parts that are replaced as just general wear & tear the zed has cost me next to nothing to run (petrol aside ;) ) in the 3 1/2 years ive owned it!!

the only time its let me down with an unforseen problem is when the PTU failed a couple of months after i bought it!!

regular maintenance is a must tho :)

clutch, clutch, clutch, & clutch or is that wear and tear

Wear item, Brakes, Tyres, Wipers, Exhaust can't be counted

Should a spent the £1800 on one carbon boyo me thinks.

Used to run an Integrale at crail clutch a week and that was an engine out job. 4 wheel drive ROCKS !!!! and likes clutches.

Craig

P.s only got 1000 miles out a my Zed's rear tyres after the MOT :)

In 8 months ive done about 15,000 miles (a bit more than a years average milage) and all ive had is slave cylinder for clutch/water pipe/alternator and temp sensor for ecu.

Not bad for the age of the car and the 100,000miles its done now :nana2:

all other cost are self inflicted...lol

Complete reshell...UK into Jspec shell :wack:

I'm not joking !!!!

All cars are going to need a bit of welding eventualy if their driven in normal conditions. Yours still looks cosmeticaly spot on in the pic ;)

Thanks Andy

The whole rear sill including inner from the door back was made from scratch on both sides. Had a big fire welding the arches "Thought I was gona loose the car and garage" . Should a taken pix but just wanted the car on the road :)

After two and a bit years ive done

2 clutches

1 set of new turbos

4 sets of rear tyres

1 bottom end engine

fully welded (1991 uk spec)

set of front disks

1 radiator

1 front cross member

1 set of hand brake shoes

1 flywheel

1 set of lifters

set of fuel tank straps

viscous fan blade

o2 sensors

Thats just the stuff that broke

I've had to count my clutch coz it was the rear crank seal failing that made my clutch go!

Also needed a prop bearing and steering rack bushes.

Lots of minor things apart from that.

I like the way that £201 in a year is considered major! LOL that's optimism

£201 is still minor but can be a pain in the ar*e if the car is not drivable for a while :)
