Funny that Darling talks about 'Satellite Tracking', doesn't he realise that it only works one way? i.e. the GPS recieves signals from space to tell US where WE are. Is he proposing that a new satellite network is created that can recieve signals from our cars and feed them to a central computer? The Magellan system only works because it has a network of 24 satellites that rotate around the Earth to provide constant coverage, to cover just one country you'd need a geostationary satellite that by design has to be placed 36000 miles away from Earth.

So Darling, you're proposing that every car in the country is fitted with a GPS reciever and also a giant radio dish capable of transmitting your whereabouts to the satellite 36000 miles away, this satellite would then have to handle the data traffic of every single vehicle in the country in realtime and transmit the whole lot back to Earth. Also what happens on sunspot days when satellite communications are screwed?

Do you ever wonder why people criticise your transport policy?

Very good point, but why would you need to send it back to a satalite?? the system could log the data then as you pass a recever somewhere it downloads it, or it could use the GSM mobile networks or even its own radio network. just my 2p's worth.

I thought about that but the country would have to be fitted with the radio equivalent of catseyes to every road, the cost of installing a countrywide bespoke radio network would be astronomical. On top of that the network would have to be secure and encrypted to prevent car 'identity theft' and even then it wouldn't be 100%. The current mobile network is already overloaded as well as being not particularly reliable can you imagine what would happen if it had to handle 100million vehicles on top of all the increased data traffic from the next generations of phones?

Very good point yet again, unless they go down the datalogger route and you have to take the car to be downloaded every now and then or something like that. thats the only ways i can realy see of this working myself.

Darling messed up the railways, now hes being allowed to play with the cars. Personally think he should go play with the buses. I'd like to know what competence these muppets claim to have to allow them to run the country
