hi guys, im not convinced my z's running as sweet as it should be. there are no fault codes, ive tried adjusting the tps, and cleaning every connector i come accross. will be removing the plenum to clean up the injector contacts and sort the water leak.

when i get it back together id love to see it on a consult to make sure its healthy. i dont normally doubt myself when working on a car, but this Z has me stumped, especially since im not sure if its ok or if its just me.

has anyone got a Consult unit in Scotland that they can run on it? or recommend a good garage that would give it once over?

The Garage in Wishaw gets a good reputation for all import Jap performance cars - even going so far as to fabricate a turbo installation on an FTO. They also had a Skyline with loads of mods.

I know of one 300ZX which is regularly serviced there, so assume they know the car. They probably have a conzult or could point you in the right direction.

Don't know of anywhere near you, though.

Cheers John, what garage is that do you know their name? if you dont il look it up in the yellow pages.

i dont mind traveling, im in Falkirk a fair bit, so i can make myself fairly central to most places in scotland.

anyone else know off any more?

i think it might be useful to collate a list of decent Z garages and post them as a sticky, and we could rate them accordingly,

ive NEVER taken a car to the garage before, but i think this ones got me beat for the time being

Cheers,

Fraser

:)

The name of the garage is "The Garage"

Good idea for garages.

I use my local guys -

Houston Motor Engineers. Johnstone.Good problem solvers. Always busy with regular customers - most servicing on my cars is done there. 10/10 problem solving, 10/10pricing, but no diagnostic equipment, no bodyshop. No specific Zed experience - general do-all-cars-mechanics.

Central Garage. Johnstone. As HME, with 6 mechanics and MOT station. Great guys.

That's a start

Fraser what symptoms u got when u say the car aint running sweet as it should be, sometimes i think mine is like that then i jump into the wife's Xsara Picasso HDi and I know its not running that bad. Reading some posts on here about 300ZX's being Scooby eaters, I know for sure mine aint as my mate has a Jap Import 280 bhp WRX and he leaves me for dead, I have a boost leak which can be heard quite noticably when the car is kicked so for me maybee thats my problem.

I want Conzult for my own means as well as probably most ZED owners but I think with most modern cars the basics can cause grief rather than the electronics, meaning air filter/fuel filters/boost leaks etc.

My mate has a garage in Darvel, Ayrshire who does most kinds of exotic cars but again no Conzult.

Enough warbling from me.....cheers John Crisp

thanks for the info guys!

john C, ive checked for boost leaks (without a tester though) mine aint no scooby eater either :(

air/fuel filter, timing is all spot on, sometimes i go to overtake and it launches off well, and othertimes it just goes flat. i cant help thinking theres a smal SOV not working or the EGR valve jammed open or something. once i clean all the injector connectors, il get a better idea of what might be wrong, but i would have thought they would either work or they wouldnt, and all the cylinders are firing. and i have no fault codes

ive bought a wolf3D V4 standalone ECU for my Daihatsu GTti but im tempted to put it on the Z afterwards, and junking all the sh1t like AFM,egr, aivs, etc... at least then i know where i'l stand.

Oki Doki Fraser, I guess from that Conzult is the answer as all that flew right over my head...I do all my own work on my Zed as I am an HGV/PSV Mechanic...cars (300zx's more like) are a nightmare compared to the stuff I work on, but from my experience I have seen many people jump in with both feet rather than checking the basics as I posted previously (not saying you aint done this already).

Has your car been emission tested recently, anything show up in that respect??

Cheers John Crisp

So how much is a Conzult machine and where do we get it?

  • Author

i havent had the emissions tested yet but the O2 sensors are blinking away happy enough and the plugs look like the mixture is ok.

I think Conzult is under 300 quid from Danny (DTA)in the Traders Section .....running it from a laptop.

Sounds like your best bet Fraser.

Cheers John Crisp

Anybody want to go halfs? thirds? quarters?

Let's face it, we all want one, but we're not gonna be using it all the time.

  • Author

if i hadnt bought this stand alone ecu i probably would have bought one, but for 300 banger i could get a lot of rolling road time and set the Wolf3D up and never have to worry about a conzult again.

buying one together is a good idea but not practical i dont think.

thanks guys.

fraser gtti
