I,m on a 5000 mile limited policy through Houghton insurance , i knew my mileage was getting a bit high but could,nt remember the original reading when i took the policy out so i gave em a ring to ask them if i,d exceeded my limit , i have by about 3000 miles so far!. oops

The lady i spoke to said i,ll ring your insurer to see what extra premium you,ll have to pay , not a problem i thought , she rang back and said " iv,e spoken to your insurer they won,t charge you any extra as my policy,s due for renewal in august but there not prepared to re-insure you " WTF i was trying to do the right and honest thing by informing them and they,ve shat on me :xxx: Houghtons now can,t offer a unlimited mileage policy :headvswal

Mate, I don't think it's so much to do with the mileage (I was told before by them that at any time I could increase my limited mileage at only a small extra cost) it's because Chaucer, who Houghtons use, have changed their policy on insuring cars like ours. There have been several posts about Houghtons recently and there are quite a few unhappy people who have found the company either asks for exhorbitant amounts on renewal or refuse point blank to re-insure you...:(

Houghtons are the broker....they arrange the insurance thru Chaucer ( :slap: ) so not Houghtons fault.

Houghtons take a £20 commision(ish) for arranging the insurance with the undewriter (Chaucer)

But you all know that anyway....

I found Houghtons to be helpful. After my car died I found Chaucer insurance to be a complete waste of space.

Go elsewhere.

i'm insured with norwich union through a broker, my insurance is up for renewal end of month and they wont re-insure me cause they,ve got a new policy "we dont insure imports older than 1993"

i had a quote of bell direct for a "300zx import" for £800 fully comp, but when i came to go ahead and told them it was a "fairlady z" they had to speak t their undewriters (admiral) and said they couldnt insure me.

 

they also said it would cost more if the car had targa top!

Just tried Carlo Nash HeeHeeee!!! they Saved me £191 compared to my existing Insurer!!! Guess what Only £330 under classic insurance with only a £250 excess and all glass cover.... :dance:

I am with MCE At the mo and they wanted a renewal of £520 so guess what carol nash it is.....

P.s they also use chaucer?????
