its official! - vibration is fault of the prop - jpg.

ok, check out the pic below!!!!!!1

its the view down from the back of the car. just above the back box of the exhaust, well, above the cats actually i think, you can see the centre bearing of the prop shaft. and clearly i think the rubber seal is broke [although i cant see a physical crack] and as u can see the prop shaft sits about 15mm lower than it should. and can push the whole prop shaf up a good 20mm or so, and it gives a big thud!

obviously i need to buy a new centre bearing!!!

does anyone have any idea if im gonna do much damage driving it around for a couple of days if i go 'easy'.

i think it explains itself!

You've been grovelling big time under there mate.

It should have a load of spongey stuff in between the inner bit and the outer bit which seems to be missing.

No Idea how much one would be though, for a worse case scenario you could ring Nissan.

Jezz.

hold on a sec - so you think that some sort of extra rubber bit has just ....er, fallen out!!!!!! ??????/// and thats why there is a big gap, as opposed something bein broken?

cos that changes things, ..well, sort of anyway.

That is the Center Support Bearing - You can get a complete replacement kit from nissan UK price is about 130 quid CN price about 80 dollars.

That is effectively the bearing which holds the 2 peice propshaft together - It wears like all bearing and will eventually wear out of tollerance if you are going to drop all the shit to replace it - may as well replace the whole kit - If your U joints ( the things the CSB attaches to ) wears you are screwed - You will need to buy a single peice driveshaft.

Hey, i don't think a quick fix to this one-like bunging a bit of crap in the hole!!!Bet that thing sounds like a RATTLER.byeee

Single piece props.....I'm well up for one of these if somebody can source one!

I woldn't recommend shoving anything in the CSB as a qiuck fix - sound a bit like a Nissan dealer thing to do 'allegedly'

Powertrain industrys do the Single peace one i believe in Alu and Steel - however i have heard problems with Blancing from lots of people.

SteveE was looking to get on fabricated over here - Any news on that front mate?

yeah a single piece sounds like a possibility.

although ive already soureced a used centre bearing from someone. so may just get that fitted anyway.

and , yes, mr. supercharger!!, it is a rattler. but only when i first move off, not when im driving. but even with this hinderance id still paste you ha ha!!!! ;lol.

I've got a droning vibration coming in around 60mph, I can feel it most throgh the seat and floor pan.

Does anybody think that my centre prop-shaft bearing doo-daa thingy could be goosed?

i havent really driven my much since the 'big wobble' - but when i used to drive it around i think it did it a bit, maybe when in top gear. ive only just fixed it - i caned around my village once - and then CLUNK, now i have big movement on my prop shaft -...... maybe i have the worse version of what u have - cos as u can c from my pics - there is a big drop [20mm] in the prop.

yours is probably not er, fu##ed yet! [yet!]

locky - the centre mount is the most common cause of vibrations like that IMHO yes.. but there's tons of cheap(er) things you can check first - check your tyres for balancing, get your alignment checked, and check for play in the rear HICAS control arms (MAC1's favourite suggestion if I remember? biggrin.gif)...

Thanks AARONJB and VEILSIDE

AARONJB Please excuse my lack of knowledge but what is HICAS and will it annoy me

No probs - HICAS - High Capacity Active Steering, or something along those lines smile.gif

Nissan's four wheel steering system.. Very clever, and very helpful, as someone put it (possibly Henri) lets anyone drive like a pro... (Of course, the limits of lateral grip still apply biggrin.gif).. It gives, from memory, a max of 4degrees of steering either way on the rear wheels, either counter, or with the front wheels depending on speed, duration of turn and steering angle..

I should add that the only time I've felt it so far (in normal driving) was when I had to swerve out around someone who decided they *really* needed to post a letter, right in front of me.. You could actually feel the back end of the car doing it's thing - very impressive, not to mention highly helpful..

Nice one AARONJB

alright let me be serious now !

can i drive the car with this problem. i talkin just down the pub, or to my mates house, that type of thing - or is any driving gonna effect the drive shaft or prop shaft - i dont wanna screw any of tose twatty components up!

come on - give me some advice hear guys

[im just looking for a " yes you can drive it around mate no problems....... u idiot!"

i need to know! b4 i knacker it!

Yes you can drive it - However i wouldn't drive it far or fast - I can't really tell what kind of deflection you are gettin from the picture - however if it is bad enuff to be hittin the heatshield i would not drive it - The main problem you could face is damage to the Splines of the shaft or to the U Joints that hold the bearings ( as i already mentioned - Not servicable)

Also I wouldn't bother with a second hand part unless it is very very new and you can prove this - Bearings wear with time - unless you are on a seriously tight budget get a new one from Luke or Nissan.

Also if you are fitting the part yourself make sure you mark the driveshaft halves when you disconnect them as they will not be correctly balanced if you mate the two halves back up at a different angle.

Hope you get it sorted - It is easy DIY as long as you can drop the exhuast without any bother (yeah rite smile.gif )

Have fun
