I got this from Andy at Bloodrunners and it was too good an idea not to pass on. Let's hope you never have to use it.

Following the disaster in London . . .

East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston.

The idea is that you store the word " ICE " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency".

In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do.

Please will you also email this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc.

So simple, but a good idea...

Been using this for years, im guessing its a military thing originally as my dad aught it to me and he's ex. military....? Fantastic idea though all the same!

one thing, I'm thinking it's the same with most phones that if you try n save the same number under different names it wont let you?

What would happen when that person calls you? What would the display "display"?

Therefore wouldnt you have to remember to dial "ICE" instead of "MUM" :D

nah - two different contacts can have the same number.

eg: MUM - 123456

ICE - 123456

shouldnt be a problem with most phones

You can store 2 different contacts with the same number but when they ring you only the number will be displayed and not the name?

So in your example all you would get as the caller is 123456

Great idea, will be doing this

p.s Wonder how many In-Car Entertainment shops get phonecalls telling them their loved ones have been in an accident.
