took my zed up 2 phil at c&s wood today, story goes like this, smokey smokey engine small trip to halfords to buy some stuff called stop smoke you add it to the oil!!

an even shorter trip later and the engine sounds like 2 hammers knocking each other ffs

 

called the firm that makes the stuff and so far they have agreed to pay for the diagnostic of the engine and if found to be their fault will pay for a new engine

 

problem is how does the mechanic prove to the engineer who has to inspect it that it was the stop smoke stuff, cos it is a very thick additive and has, i bet clogged up the oil ways!!!

Sorry to hear this mate. TBH I've heard this over and over again with addititives so its probably not a conicidence. Best of luck in proving it though:(

With great difficulty. In fact, if the company choose to contest it, you're almost certainly screwed.

 

But, basically - strip the engine down to it's component parts and inspect every oilway, gallery and feed - especially feeds in the bearings - to see if they are clogged.

 

The feeds in bearings are quite tiny IIRC, so will clog easily.

 

Then try proving that the problem was the additive, and not just cruddy oil..

 

Essentially, the only conclusive proof would be two freshly built engines, run one on normal oil and put the additive in the other, run on an engine dyno and see what happens.. IMHO anyway. :S

Yep to that when bearing wear is present iv seen the small holes in the rods seiled and bearings burred over :(

i'll keep you all posted guys, hopfully next week the engineer wil be on the case and looking for his way out, lets hope the problem is obviousley theirs!!
