vibration?

Hi ,i having a slight problem with my zx,when i accelerate from standing,there is a banging noise coming from the under the car near the centre under the seat.Once the car has accelerated just past standing the car no longer makes any noises ,it only seems to occur when the car starts from a standstill.I have talked to two mechanic friends of mine and they both seem to think that the rubber has split to the cushion drive,which i think is a part of the central bearing?Although it might have a seperate rubber doughnut instead?So when the car comes to a standstill the two propellor shafts droop and then when power is applied the shafts flap up and down due to the split in the rubber and cause the noise,i think?Do i need to get another central bearing or does the zx have a seperate rubber doughnut?If so,does anyone have one or knows where to get one,cheers Ben

It is your central bearing.

Does your car vibrate at higher speeds?

 

My car is doing this at the moment, so that is somthing else that is to be put on the list of to do things.

 

Does anyone have the part No of this bearing or the number on the the bearing itself. There is a factory round my way that may be able to make them. They make everything else

i dont think it vibrates at higher speeds. as i said, when i first move off it does a couple of 'judders' and then doesnt do it again. and it only seems to do it again when i come to a standstill and then start moving [it doesnt do it in reverse either.]

 

its as if it only does it the the driveshaft thingy first engages from a static position.

My 200 did that, it was the central bearing carrier, it was on upside down (my fault) as the lugs are slightly off centre. It meant that the shaft was hitting the crossbar just below the shaft.

 

This could be totally useless info though cos its a different motor.

 

But it does seem however that Zed's are just as shit as 200's when it comes to reliability, just more expensive and difficult to fix. frown.gif

Mine only used to make a noise under extreme loads, eg, flooring it up a hill in 1st.

 

But it does look to be the problem.

Surely your best bet would be to establish that is deffo the problem.

 

Has the propshaft, gearbox or anything been out recently, if so is there anyway that the bearing cradle could have been put back in the wrong way up?

 

I suppose a scrappers could have one, but there's not many Zeds in scrappers are there?

I tried a local place that sells just about everything but they couldn't get one for my car. So I turned the carrier the other way up and left it at that. Been fine ever since.

 

They are a real fucker to fit as well, you have to split the two halves of the shaft, which I imagine bearing in mind that Zeds are notorious for shit unbalanced propshafts that it'll be a nightmare. frown.gif

 

You could try AndyZ or Brandy, they may still have one off their breakers, can't see there being much call for them.

evening all!, yeah nothin has been done to the car. well except for te fact that i had it jacked up all weekend changin the radiator - dont think that could have unbalanced it do ya. i think that it has happened because i only fixed the cyliner problem the other day and i gave it a good rippin and now the plop shaft has done 1!

 

let me be SERIOUS now for a second......

 

also jus wonderin, does anyone think it would be ok to drive it for a few days with this problem, i mean if i start real slow the bumpin doesnt occur and i cant hear ought when i goin 30, 40, 60mph, so whatta u lot think!

 

let us know - i dont wanna screw up the drive shaft or anythin.

Not bee'in funny when I say this Ben, but a serious amp and speakers can solve this.

You cant hear shit with em turned up.

I grant you this is a flamingo-with-head-in-sand approach but it does work.
