its just a race, at least no one was killed or injured,

and i think what happened was the best solution, its only an issue because it effected most of the field, if it were bridgestones that were busted they would not have raced and there would have been 14 cars running, no way they would have built a chicane in that instance.

Americans did their job of showing just how stupid they can be, what is the point of throwing bottles at the cars that hav gone on track to give you a show? if i were the drivers I would have pulled off in protest. ****ing idiots.

I don't care about the american grand prix, its a shit circuit, they should take it back to las vegas.

we could also go back to the 80's cars but have slower more dangerous races, I personally would like to see manual boxes with a manual clutch, I thikn that would do enough for F1 to bring it back to how it used to be,

I think they need to change the tyre manufacturer rules, either have it so the teams can make their own tyres or have one manufacturer,

everyones talking about it though lol, there is no way this will damage F1 as it stands, it will just stop the penetration of F1 into the USA, where it doesnt belong IMHO

I don't think it's fair to lay into Michelin so hard. F1 is about the limits of technology and that's where these guys (and tyre) operate. The diamond cut track was not available for testing before the race weekend - and that's when the problems became apparent.

True, but each team is allowed to have two different tyres. Michelin supplied two different sets, but both were made using the same carcass type, so both had the same problem. As they evidently had alternative tyres back in France, why didn't they bring them along if they didn't know what the track surface would be like?

If it was a cost saving measure, I suspect it may backfire as I imagine they'll be paying out a lot of compensation...

I doubt it, the FIA are French! LOL!! :xxx:  :nono: :D

As I understand it, FIA rules state they can only bring the two selections made by each team; they weren't allowed to bring backups.

No way was that sh*t show the best solution. Sure it was Michelin at fault 100% no dispute, but the FIA needed to decide on a sensible decision for everyone, instead nothing but total confusion right up till the end of the formation lap. As Martin Brundle said, a chicane being erected would'nt have caused the drivers to much of a problem, especially if they would have been given several laps to get used to it, as I suggested and alter set-ups on the cars...

They are after all meant to be the elite top drivers that can deal with any situation that may arise...and seeing as politics is usually decided by a majority I'm shocked nothing was sorted out...

I do agree with the angry fans being stupid and throwing cans of bud onto the main straight, very dangerous indeed, they should of just abandoned the whole race, to just have 6 cars go round was just hiddeous IMHO.. :slap: :nono:

cheers Jon..

It was, but if they hadn't run the race, how would they know whether Ferrari deserved the 18 points for a 1-2 finish? They turned up with a car capable of doing the whole race safely and ended up with the points they deserved. Sadly it made a mockery of the whole thing, but I don't really see what else could be done, considering Michelin seemed to be only willing to allow their teams to race if a chicane was put in.

so what happens when lets say Mclaren have a manufacturing fault with their wing? do they slow the track down so mclaren can race?

Dear Mr Dupasquier,

Dear Mr Shorrock,

We have received your letter of 18 June.

We are very surprised that this difficulty has arisen. As you know, each team is allowed to bring two different types of tyre to an event so as to ensure that a back-up (usually of lower performance) is available should problems occur. It is hard to understand why you have not supplied your teams with such a tyre given your years of experience at Indianapolis.

That the teams you supply are not in possession of such a tyre will also be a matter for the FIA to consider in due course under Article 151c of the International Sporting Code.

No doubt you will inform your teams what is the maximum safe speed for their cars in Turn 13. We will remind them of the need to follow your advice for safety reasons. We will also ask them to ensure their cars do not obstruct other competitors.

Some of the teams have raised with us the possibility of running a tyre which was not used in qualifying. We have told them this would be a breach of the rules to be considered by the stewards. We believe the penalty would not be exclusion but would have to be heavy enough to ensure that no team was tempted to use qualifying tyres in the future.

Another possibility would be for the relevant teams repeatedly to change the affected tyre during the race (we understand you have told your teams the left rear is safe for a maximum of ten laps at full speed). If the technical delegate and the stewards were satisfied that each change was made because the tyre would otherwise fail (thus for genuine safety reasons) and that the relevant team were not gaining an advantage, there would be no penalty. If this meant using tyres additional to a teams’ allocation, the stewards would consider all the circumstances in deciding what penalty, if any, to apply.

Finally, it has been suggested that a chicane should be laid out in Turn 13. I am sure you will appreciate that this is out of the question. To change the course in order to help some of the teams with a performance problem caused by their failure to bring suitable equipment to the race would be a breach of the rules and grossly unfair to those teams which have come to Indianapolis with the correct tyres.

Yours sincerely,

Charlie Whiting

FIA Formula One Race Director

wasn't it a few races ago that raikonin(cant spell) was on last lap or summit and a tyre blew up sending him off the track, now this load of nonsense, dont care what anyone says the tyre change has to come back before someone is killed...........or is that what it will take...........wake up FIA.

he was allowed to change his tyre as it was unsafe, however he/the team chose not to

I wonder if when the rules changed they had to make all those guys who did a 4 sec tyre change redundant......and if so, are they now working for Kwik Fit or Motorway?!?! :smash: :nelson:

I reckon he would have finished if they'd fitted some rock hard Kwik Fits own brand hoops! (and probably a similar price too!)
