brake question

when I changed my brake pads on the front out came original pads

with a shim and a plate on each pad

now when I put the ebc pads in the instructions made it sound like you only put the plate supplied by ebc back when you put the pads in so I scrapped the shims etc

the one supplied by ebc are like and adhesive piece of metal but thats all I put in on each brake pad..

now my brakes make a loud embarassing scuffing noise on every rotation over 20mph and when I apply the brakes its a loud long ssssssccccchhhhhh!!

discs and pads are all new! and theyve doen a few miles now so I dont reckon its anything to do with breaking in the pads etc

Im wondering If I should have put the grilled shims back in aswell.

can I get these from nissan

just its all pissing me off now as Ive done brakes before and never had any problems...

thanks in advance for any replies

hi there, did ya put any copper grease on the bk side of the pads! as this will help sotp the pistons binding up on the bk of the pads! also is there any "metal wear arms" affixed to the pad. if so will the arms need bendin back abit. they are there to let ya know wen the pads are running low, but if they have been bent in transit could be touching the disk!

Read this

An excerpt:

"Proper pad replacement would require purchase of a new pad shim kit to go with the brake pads (kit contains everything to do two calipers worth). This keeps the pads in proper alignment & cures about 80% of the clicking, popping & creaking from the front brakes. The main reason for purchase is the PBC grease that comes with the kit. Very nasty stuff to work with, but seems to be the key to reducing noise in the braking department. "

Check out the link - it is complete with pics.

What this Forum needs is a Technical Section. Sheesh!! ALL the questions I read have been answered a million times and the enormous effort that has gone into compiling the Technical resources for Zedders is being ignored.!

Just for interest, take a look at our Aussie forum:

Visit the 'Technical' tab at the top. That's what this Forum needs.

Nah, that's just a group of threads, posted by members.

I mean a real Tech Section like this:

http://aus300zx.neuralmotion.com.au/tech/index.html

You get a full Workshop Manual, Tech articles, 'how to's, links to a variety of different Zed sites, magazine articles, etc, etc, etc.

Try it.

On this Forum I can't see any list of links to the outside world, no way of accessing all the gigabytes of tech stuff and expert help that's available. I 'Search' and all I get is a list of previous posts within this Forum.

Am I missing something??

ok mate thanks

now this is interesting perhaps I have described the noise wrong its more of a rubbing noise ie pad rubbing disc

now I phoned ebc" ad spoke to there brake bloke"

he said the following

remove disc clean area rotate disc and put back on should really use a dial gauge but I aint got one..

the disc isnt sitting true but I now Ive done that it aint mae the slighest difference

now Im sure you knwo what your talking about and Im sure he does

but he also said the following the pads come with a metal plate you dont need to put anything else in apart from this no nissan shims or anything just the one supplied by ebc

he also said we dont use any grease etc anymore as we dont live in the early 90's anymore things are alot better now and the greasing etc just corrodes newer technology

just so you know the pads are ebc and so are the discs

thanks

chris
