My PC has gone tits up again. Ive managed to install XP again but when i try to update it to SP2 it crashes (blue screen) and my Antivirus wont open. I guess the virus is still there crss.exe looks like its the problem or summat like that. I there anything i can do without reformatting? I dont want to loose all my work.

did you do a fresh install or upgrade to SP2? upgrading is a bit of a pig by all accounts. better off wiping intalling XP fresh then SP2 straight after IMO

Well i could not get into my XP as i got a message that the msconfig or summat file was corrupt, so i installed anouther copy of XP so i can get into my PC, but i cant kill the virus in there.

Dunno about the MAC's, my G5's running like a bagga shite atm. Linux is boss on my PC though :cool:

May be worth getting a Pre-installation environment boot CD or Winternals CD to fix the problem? Sounds like the registry is calling something at startup which it doesn't like.

What virus checker are you using? Get the PC up and running and then run AVG scan from the web asap! ;)

avg scan ill see if i can find that tonight.

Online virus scanner and cleaner, not sure if AVG still do online virus scanning as they seem to have gone all commercial all of a sudden. ;)
