There was once a time when running a diesel was much cheaper than running a petrol car so WTF has gone wrong?

Get this.......................................

Last weekend I had to fill up in some motor way services at 98.9 ppl :wack: :wack: :wack: :wack: :wack: :wack:

Any one else had to pay any where near those prices?

was listening to this debate on the radio yesterday

a few people came on and said they were running there diesels on cooking oil

and there was no differance , apart from approx 45p per litre ????

I use the local Tesco stuff at 86.9p. Of course if you buy £50 worth of nosh then you can get 5p off.

Lidl is the best place for veggie oil I think. You can run 30-50% without too much trouble, although certain types of fuel pump are fussy about it. Can get it for as little as 33p per litre ! Need to make sure it's not nut oil in disguise though - lots of diesels have a nut intolerance !!!!

I have got a MG ZT 190+ but its going back to the finance company next month PCP agreement see.

I use an Astravan to get to work and as you said the cost of diesel is a p155 take mate. BP have been up to 94ppl just recently. and thats another government p0xy increase.

STOP THE WORLD I WANNA GET OFF? :headvswal

I have got a MG ZT 190+

Me too  Well, a ZT-T 190+.

I wouldn't touch a diesel when the fuel cost a load less than petrol and now that's not even the case any more, I certainly won't have one. :nono:

After the ZT goes back I obviously want to get a runaround and asked the 'ol lady "what do you think we should get love" her reply "A diesel they are cheap to run"

TCHHH! women dont have a clue? :x:

yep it costs me £90 a week in diesel van, only 140 miles a day total miles,, pissed of with costs,, and me firm pays for diesel , but have to invoice for it end of month , fookin expensive,, rather pay extra few p and go faster,

But on the upside, my diesel car does 45mpg. The best petrol car I've ever had was 34mpg and the Z does 20mpg. It saves me a packet as I do about 20,000 a year. Also, it doesn't seem to wear out tyres, unlike the Z.

I was putting about £50 pw at least in the Z for daily use and commuting, now though I do the same on no more than £20 in my diesel. Although it is so fooking slow, I don't even dare overtaking on country roads!!!

Currently run a Cav 2nd car-50+ to the gallon :D ,yes derv has shot up in price but at least you get further on it! ;)

No thanks. I'm not a big fan of personal plates, I'm afraid. :(

Precisely. Yes, a Z is appalling for fuel economy, but that's no reason to go out and but a diesel! There are loads of cars that do decent mpg *and* still allow you to overtake on country roads! ;)

audi a4 110 tdi 50 to the gallon

dont go that bad either

I got to agree with andy there. Altho' Diesel prices have gone mad you still get better milage over any petrol engine (of similar size).

My work Astravan cost me about £15 to south London and back (aprox' 160 miles)

My motorbike costs me over £20 to do about the same...

Frightened to calculate the ZED????

LOL I wish! I get 300miles (at a push) from a full tank thats around 22 mpg :o

I run a 1.6 Zetec Escort, my daily drive is 20 miles door to door, so 40 miles per day. So thats, on the week, 200 miles + an extra trip (to Karens) 45 = 245 from £37 of unleaded (about 83.9 ppl) and I'm on 1/4 of a tank of fuel left!!

Oh to run a diesel!!

But I do agree that they are trying to fleece you now, just like they did with unleaded.

I was reading on the US site, that someone was complaining about having to pay $2 per gallon!!!!!! and sonme were saying that they didn't even pay that!

I get about 60mpg from my Pug 106 diesel. I've done about 20,000 in the last year & it's saved me a fortune! If I'd done that mileage in the Zed it would have cost over £1500 more in fuel!

My mate has a new Fiesta diesel which does about 72mpg! It also has all the extras like AC, EW, EM etc.

ROFLMFAO

That's absolute class, one of the funniest posts I've read in ages! 10 outta 10 Mr. P!!! :D

They should have a warning on the cooking oil... Not suitable for diesels, contains nuts

Still p!ssin' meself! :D

i run a bmw 325 tds se running 80 on the motorway between 48 + 50 to the gallon i put £30 a week in the tank as i tow a trailer as well sometimes same milage in the z is around £60 per week

I hate this thread.

My wife runs a Laguna 2.2TD estate and gets 35mpg.

I'm getting around 16mpg (urban), 22mpg (motorway) from my M5 and did nearly 2000 miles in the first 2 weeks. I stopped to fill it up at a motorway service station, payed nearly £1 a litre for optimax and got a £72 bill!!!!

Still, I'd sooner take the beemer for a drive than the renault.

I've got a Citroen Xantia 1.9 TD as a second car, and that thing gets to Wales and back on less than a tank, so I'm quite happy with it. If I tried that in the Zed, I'd have to take out a second mortgage lol

Seriously though, I haven't found fuel economy to be too low on the Zed for motorway driving, it's only tonking around the back roads that eats it up for me

i have a corsa 1.5d that is sitting on my drive. 75 miles to a fiver, but can you just run normal cooking oil or do you need to add anything to it?
