Hello people

I have just noticed I have slack in my rear rack, both rear wheels can be moved easily (when jacked up) from side to side. The slack is in the HICAS hydraulic thingy whatsit.

Anybody know what I need and how to cure the probelm and a ruff price please ?

Cheers

Paul

The excess movement you have is due to the rear hicas steering arm wear.

These are a service replacement item, nothing too unusual, the arms can be removed from the hicas assembly and replaced with simple tools, the just car jacked and safely supported and remove the rear wheels.

There are two lower arm bushes where the hicas arms locate onto the hub assemly, these can wear also, as these are somewhat harder to change without slightly more specialist tools it is lucky that most of the time it is the hicas arms alone which have worn.

After replacement the rear tracking will need to be checked and adjusted.

Part cost, around £65 each for the arms and £45 for the lower arm bush

Thanx Jeff, I'm almost certain it isn't the lower arm bush or the bush on the end of the steering arm. It is definatly the steering arm in the hydraulic cylinder, you can actually see it move when the wheels are moved. Do you know where I can get the steering arms from (Nissan main stealer, or elsewhere) and will this cure the slack.

I've just looked at the on line manual, looks like a ball and socket arrangement on the rack end. Do you get this and the rubber bush on the other end with new arms. What I'm basically asking is would a new arm have all new werable parts on it, if that makes sense.

if you mean the rubber bush that presses into the hub, then no, you dont get that.

Cheers Paul, I take it that's extra then. What about the ball and socket arrangement, is there a ball on the arm and socket in the rack or are they both on the arm. Just don't wanna buy new arms and it end up not being them.

I have my HICAS sitting on the garage floor if you want it, no play before it was removed

Jaffa, could you describe (or show a picture) of the arm removed from the rack and what would you want for the arms ?

the ball socket comes with the arm ;) this screws directly into the rack
