Intercooler Ducts

Due to a general lack of response I'll ask again ;-) ...

Dilema - Have new bumber with stylish racing mesh fitted *but* it clashes with the intercoller 'ducts'...

So, do I keep the ducts or the mesh - REALISTICALLY HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE DO THE INTERCOOLER DUCTS MAKE?

Considered opinions...

Thanks Guys (& Gals)

hi bud,

i believe stillen make an intercooler duct that fits straight on and is good for the hks or stillen intercoolers, i blive it requires mods.

the stock duct DOES have a purpose as it creates a vacum designed to draw air through it.

have you pic of new bumper for me to see?

Warren mate........i'm still waitin' on ur call..

So... what do I stand to lose if I remove the ducts?

hi Mark,

how you doing ?

the ducts you talking about are behind the ic's right ?

to make the ic's work, you need air to flow through them, the ducts let the air out.

else you would end up with a build up of air pressure in the front, but no airflow.

if your new front bumper has airflow exits somewhere behind the ic's then you can remove the ducts, if it doesn't then you need to keep them somewhere to produce the airflow you need

what type of front have you gone for ?

or is it hush hush wink.gif

Hi craig

The ducts run from the opening on the FRONT bumber to the FRONT of the intercooler. I assume they're there to 'encourage' the airflow over the IC. I just dont want to scrap them if they play an important part in things.

well in that case Mark, how confident are you that the new bumper will allow enough airflow to reach the ic's ?

if there is a lot of empty space behind the bumper and in front of the ic's, and especially if there is an exit for the air in that space anywhere, then you will get very little if any airflow through the ic's.... path of least resistance and all that

still not giving away the make/model of bumper, so noone can make a guesstimate based on what size/position the intakes are...

if they were designed properly in the first place thaey would also have free space behind the ic's to allow air movement through but they are blocked behind

Its one of these...

Mark,

I think your front as air vents just ahead of the front wheels, so you should get plenty of airflow through the I/C's.

When are you getting yours fitted?

Any of that snazzy mesh left over? wink.gif

Dave

Dave:

Its in at the moment being fitted - but theve come across this clash with the mesh/duct.

Im tempted to keep the ducting and remove the bits of mesh that clash. Hopefully should get the Z back ina week or so.

I have a few scraps of mesh left (and some extremely expensive urethane bonding agent for fixing stuff to these Stillen bumpers).
