Went to see the start of the Gumball Rally on saturday. Loads of smart cars there (no 300zx's :cry: ) including 2 ferrari enzo's, lamborghini's, a pagani zonda, a stretched hummer and an ice cream van!

 

Saw Jensen Button and Jodi Kidd.

 

Got some piccys, but not as many as i would have liked as there was loads of people there!

 

Did anyone else from here go?

I was there too, got some good video but need some time to edit it. Loved the Pagani Zonda

looks like the replacment for the lancia stratos (but i thought it was only a concept) i may be wrong

I couldnt see any badges or anything on it and it was still left there after all the other cars had started, so am not sure if it actually drives or not!?

Apparently the lancia IS a concept car and was just there for show - its not actually running in the race - someone saw it on the back of a low loader after the start.

 

A mate of mine is running in it in a 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB. They're both dressed as vicars - he sent me a picture of him with Caprice and some other lovely draped all over him - lucky b4stard!

That's not a 1977 308 GTB, that's a mid 80's 288 GTO....

I pasted the details from the Gumball site. It turns out it IS a 288 GTO original body but the engine is from a 308.

When all the kids at school were dreaming of Porsche's, I had my heart set on a Ferrari 308 :D

But then Magnum had a lot to do with that :rofl: The 328 just improved on it, then the 348 was the ultimate. After that they just went shite :D Think I might still have some models somewhere of them aswell ;)

 

SPOTTER BIT :The GTO is easily recognisable by the 'Shark Gills' on the rear quarter panel, the extra vents across the bonnett and the raised door mirrors, and it just looks deeper (which it is, aswell as wider).... Sad bit over ;)

ive always wanted to go and will start with the easy one first the europe gumball as iam not that conferdent on the zed making the end :rofl:

 

the price tag is a bit steep but if you get in early you can get some good sponsers to help with the costs

Was gonna say that aint no 308. I used to work for a company that made a 308 replica created from one original rear wing and a lot patience!!

 

288 GTO's are pretty rare though and I'm not sure I'd wanna risk clattering one on the gumball! Fair credit to him for doing it!!!
