I have a pair of 15" L5 solo-baric Kicker subs, I need an amp to power them I have a mate who wants to sell me a brand new 1800watt class D Lanzar vibe amp or I have been looking at Kicker 04kx12001 1200watts x1rms class d mono block

Im really interested in the kicker as as it will keep it all the same :?:

cheers

The kicker everytime, don't rate the Lanzars at all Im afraid, had 3 of them and they all blew up running low loads and outputs, not built too good ! The kicker on the other hand is a nice amp and will go perfectly with your subs.

Olly.

When sizing up any Amp to a speaker always go for an amp thats 1/3 to half the output max of the speakers as most speaker's are for example 1200watt max,so Rms would be 500-600watt continous max...If you go any higher than half you will risk damage to the speaker or Amp...

That is true to some extent but you would want more like 3/4 of the rms of the subs so if they are 600w rms each you would want 450w rms to each sub, if you underpower them they will distort and distortion will kill any speakers !

You didnt read my post correctly!!! :slap: you've just repeated what i said!!To Some degree..... :p

i said if you read my post 1/3 to 1/2 max amp rms to speaker wattage max handling (not rms of speaker).... ;)

So eg: 600watt amp rms-1200/1400 max input intermittent sub/speaker

Yes I did lol !

I was just trying to point out that you do not want to heavily under-power any subs as this will fry them quicker than overpowering them. If the subs require 600w rms then 450w/550w rms is more like it not 300 w rms.

think i'll give the lanzar amp a miss, I have been advised on an amp called voodoo its a class D 1800 watts cheaper than the kicker but more watts

The subs are 4ohm each I was told around 700watt each, do you think the kicker amp will be powerful enough to run them both?

thanks for your help

I'm pretty sure the L5 Kicker's take about 750w rms but do check. If the subs are single 4ohm then you will need to get an amp that supplies around 1200 to 1400 w rms into a 2ohm load. If the Voodoo does that then go for it as they are pretty good amps. The Kicker would only be pushing out around 600 w rms at a 2ohm load.

If your subs are dual voice coil 4 ohm then you will be able to wire them both to see a 1ohm load at the amp and the kicker would then be fine as it will give each sub 600w rms which is ideal.

Just had a look they are dual voice coil 4 ohm, so I have gone for the kicker :smash:

Thanks for your help mate

Excellent choice, 1200w rms into two kicker L5's luverly !

Post up some pics of them installed or write up on how they sound mate as I haven't really heard the L5's yet with a kicker amp and it would be nice to know if they sound good together ?
