I've been contacted by someone "on behalf of the RAC" offering an additional insurance policy so that if I'm hit by an uninsured driver :wack: I don't lose my no-claims bonus, etc. I'm not insured with anything RAC related, I just have the recovery.

They reckon 1 in 4 drivers are uninsured (good ol' scare tactics!) yet the premium is only £15 per year. I'd have thought that for such a "big problem" you'd be paying a lot more.

Does anyone know if these policies actually are actually worth anything? Or am I just being sceptical?! :D

are you sure its not just for legal expenses??

not sure how one company could say they will protect your ncb with another,

not saying it isnt possible, just never heard of it, ask them to send the details so you can read the contract

edit...

must read post correctly!! :o

Sounds a bit like a scam.

If an uninsured driver hits you your losses are generally covered by the Motor Insures Bureau (central fund set up by underwriters)

As many as 1 in 5 (in some parts of the country do not have insurance, not in the whole country...

Check carefully before you buy.

Why would someone contact you on behalf of the RAC?...They would do it themselves I reckon ..

Chunk- that's ok I didn't see it what you put first anyway!

Billy- Too late! I'd asked the girlfriend to do just that, but she's decided that "they sound legitimate" and handed over her (i.e. our!) credit card details.

Splatt- Actually it does appear that it's actually the RAC themselves. Either that or they've got enough inside info to pass themselves off as RAC anyway.

Guess we'll find out in due course...

Aye, that would appear to be the case!

Cheers chaps,

I have had experiance with that sort of thing and there is a govenment run organisation called (beleive it or not) "MIB" I dont know if they wear black?

But if you get hit by an uninsured driver they have a funding to help you and you don't loose your NCB. They are in milton Keynes.

My car got written off by 2 under age kids driving a knicked ford escort whilst being chased by the police.
