Hi guys.

 

Went round Brands Hatch yesterday abd it was brilliant. Easily the fastest car in my class (the novice class, it was my 1st track day and i was lapping everyone and eating Porsche turbos!). :dance:

Trouble is that the session before the last one my car was smoking on idle and shortly before the end of the session I had to come in coz the car didnt feel right. Now i can only hear the left BOV and the engine sounds like its misfiring (sounds like a boxer engine). Any ideas would be most appreciated

sounds like you're running on 5 cylinders, most probably a coil pack connector, push them all down to see if that helps. otherwise go round 1 by one diconnecting them until you find one that make no difference.

not sure about the smoking though

does sound like coil problem, had similar symptom's last year with a Z i almost bought, got about 300 miles away , had a little race with a skyline on the motorway, drove it very hard, suddenly noticed something wasn't right, pulled in, idling very lumpy and the rest of the things you describe (cant say if it was smoking, it was 3 in the morning) , anyway drove back, got my money and old z back only to get a phonecall from the guy when i was almost home to tell me it was just a loose coil connection!! :headvswal

But like you i was convinced it was a turbo problem.

smoking, isnt there a think wiht zeds that if you take a corner either left or right to hard it smokes anyway?

Thanks for the info guys. I did have a loose connector after all.

Also i had flames apparently when i was on the track as well. Should i worry about this as I have no cats?

nah, flames sounds normal if you have a spark out and no cats in, unburnt fuel into the red hot exhaust. Black smoke would be another effect.

Yeah I used to get that, something about oil getting up into the breathers then burning off.
