How did the rolling road session go?

Haven't seen anything mentioned, so was wondering how everyone got on? Heard Warren had a rather spectacular figure, but what about everyone else?

Its sounds like I got the lowest results on the dyno day, 223 at the wheels at about 4000rpm (don't have the plots with me, but I think thats right).

It is a 1989 auto which is standard apart from Blitz back boxes, and there is a big gear change dip just after 4000 rpm (my overdrive doesn't work either).

Still, time to start modding if I'm going to catch up with Warrens figures.

P.S. Big thanks to Warren for organising that, I was very pleased to meet him and Craig at last, and several other members of the forum. Actually I think it would be interesting at these events to try driving each others cars to see what they feel like relative to our own. I wouldn't mind trying Warrens, even though he's clearly short of one exhaust.

The day I let all you loony's drive my car is the day after hell freezes over !

However, it was great fun and good to meet many of the people. I think it is probably best treated as a RR introduction and a handy comparison of similar cars. If you want to get serious about this sort of thing then you need to book dedicated time and work on understanding what the various readouts are telling you and then consider what can be twiddled/optimised with the weath of knowledge that the operators have.

Thanks to Warren for organising a great meet (and for finally handing over my new pads!)

Harve,

Been thinking more about your car and I've got another theory. If the MAS is OK then it could be an air leak after the MAS. The engine would be expecting all the air coming in to be going to the cylinders and would feed the right amount of fuel in.

If you had an air leak after the MAS then the same amount of fuel would go in but with too little air. That would explain your rich mixture.

Difficult bit is that it's unlikely to be a big air leak (otherwise it would run like a complete dog) so you're probably only going to be getting a noticeable problem at high boost which you don't get with the bonnet up and the car ticking over.

Only hint would be to get a length of rubber tube and stick one end in your ear (no, not joking!) and then hold the other end next to ends of all pipework under the bonnet. This really does help in picking up hissing noises.

And take a pic coz it looks dead funny too !

Yep, great day, even tho I had to leave early. Pissed off i didn't have my z wiv me. I know now what happened. After doing some engine work i forgot to reconnect the hose from the rad to the expansion tank. I went over a bump. this must have caused the hose to get caught by the fan a few miles down the road, got ripped off the expansion tank end, caught up in the fan belt for the steering and duly caused the fan belt to come off. Day later found both the belt and hose lying in the road both intact. Just call me monsieur Poirot. Next, the case of the erratic idle...

Harve,

Have you checked the temperature sensor?

If the temp sensor is faulty it can tell the ECU that the engine is always cold, leading to too much fuel being fed to the engine..(like if you left the choke out on a car with a manual choke)

Hope this helps and let me know how you get on.

Regards

Brian
