I know a few years back it was very popular to have your reg number etched to all glass on the car. Was looking at a car at the weekend and it had the number etched in the windows, but below it it had a etched rectangle the same size and length as the number. It was the same all round. Is this normal, or could it be hiding a previous number underneath?

Many thanks

Barry.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. But it could be for many reasons..... New private reg?,.......hmmmmm......hmmmm..... Stolen? :x: ..... lol ;) He could have brought all the glass from another car, and replaced it onto this car??

Thanks guys, it was only thing slightly worrying me. Hpi is clear and all seemed ok on vin plates and chassis numbers. Did leave a small deposit while I got things checked out. Hmmmmmmm

my dad got a new windscreen a years ago (on his nova) and after about a week, he noticed that they had etched the reg wrong on the glass, so he took it back they etched a rectangle over it and did it again beside it.

just shows that its quite a pointless excercise getting them etched in the first place if you have to question why its been blanked out...ideally he should have got a fresh windscreen.

as long as its not the same on all the windows it could just have been a second hand window, or like Dave says, a private number that could have been on before and not been sold with the car, and re registered

Cheers Fraser, looking at the history, it hasnt had any number plate changes and its the same on all.

This is probably either obvious, or a stupid thing to say........ But....... Why don't you ask him why it's been done? ;)

Sorry, don't mean to seem sarcastic :x:

Not daft question Dave, it was done prior to this guy owning it. He took it to be the norm. The car has had 9 owners which can be high, but apparantly not unnormal for a 18 yeard old RS500 Cosworth :)

Black one, still very rare. Been looking at 3dr Cosworths all weekend, found a very clean, Black, 56k miles, history, 2 owner car (1st owner owned uptill Jan 05) still had ford security for 9 grand. Then the RS500 came up, 9 owners, 83k miles, nowhere near as clean as the standard 3dr, but cheap at 10k. If I wasnt going to buy, it was going to be put back up for sale for 12k-13k.

Might have to wait a little longer, until I can get planning permission for a second garage, cant have the Zed sat out in the cold :)

Barry.

maybe it was that silly practice of etching the chassis number, and someone decided they wanted the reg number on instead??

Dont understand why they display chassis numbers, cant you get keys cut from a chassis number
