My Zed has been laid up for about 7 months and only turned over a couple of times in that period.

 

I need a new batt but what else should I be checking/replacing before she goes back on the road?. She had an oil/filter change 500 miles before being laid up.

Not much help here I'm afraid, but Ive heard of a lot of turbos going bang after a long period of standing, I would defo give the engine a good time ticking over before driving and then be careful not to use high boost for a few miles, also petrol ages but I wouldn't have thought seven months would give you any problems tbh.

7 months of petrol standing is a very long time i think, i was told by a garage they don't recommend leaving it to stand for more than 4 weeks, howver I have started cars with 7 month old petrol and they usually smoke a lot on the old petrol

 

just run her in for a few days and i guess she will be ok :)

Cheers Dave!. That's exactly the sort of info I was after TBH. She is at stock boost levels, but I will take it easy for the first few miles. And as per usual, she was all most empty when I parked her up, so have put a fiver's worth of our favorite Optimax in.

I may sound over cautious with this thread but you know how it is. No point in causing damage if all it takes is a few questions!.

Disconnect the PTU and get oil pressure up before allowing her to fireup.

Once fired up leave it running on idle for about 15mins to allow everything to fully warm through, and take the first few miles easy as your brakes will be rusted up. Make sure all your tyre pressures are good as they lose air overtime, and may even have flat spots.

 

Fill the car as soon as to the max with Optimax to help with the old petrol.

And then run this tank to empty, and then refill to the max again.

If I run on low revs and use up what is in the bottom of the tank, would this have the same effect?. Not that I am tight, I just don't know how to clear the tank out and it sounds easier my way ;)

yeh he does, its a good tip,

maybe take the fuse out of the fuel pump as well so you dont flood the engine while your turning her over.

Seems everyone shows concern for old fuel, like leigh says thinning it out a bit will reduce risk.

Probably be ok, as long as you resist the high boost for a week or so. I would also allow a good few days for all the oil to settle. Smithy will tell you of the nightmare he had a year or so ago.
