Probe V6...

 

Hi,

 

I'm new to these there forum's but what would you think would be the best (unbiased if poss) to go for.

The Probe is a 94' V6 with 86k a full yr's mot, tax Aug, or a standard 300ZX also a 94', 95k, mot Dec, tax Sept.

 

I just want some opinion's please on this, as Iv'e heard so much about both car's.

I know a couple of Lads off here (SgtC n T-pot) well, not too sure that they are lads TBH have owned the Ford!!!

The ZED Mate, Its one hell of a car and you can style it to your own design, As you will see from this forum its amazing that a load of zeds can be the same but different! Make sure irs mechanicaly sound tho or it will hurt ya pocket! :nana2: :nana2: :nana2:

Hello mate, speaking as a person who had 1 of the top 3 probes in the country, won quite a few shows in 2002/2003. There is No comparison in drive handling comfort or even speed in the 24v and the 300zx :bow: 300zx hands down :D

How ever it really depends on what you are looking for in the car you are looking at.

As chunk says me and t-pot have owned 2 bloody good cars mine being the 24v V6 and T-pots being the 2.0 16v, i am sure he will give his own opinion.

If you do want some good advice just check out the FPOC web site mate http://www.fpoc.co.uk They are a good bunch of lads and lasses :cool:

Yes mate .....and before you lot really salg this guy off, he is asking for advice, not a slagging.

i moved onto the 300zx cos it would have cost me more to twin turbo the car than the Z cost me....:D They are like most cars if you get a good one then ya sorted, if not then ya shagged like quite a few on here with them off the road all the time.

Very true mate, but 90% of them are Donald Ducked, ask any new/used dealer what their opinions of the Probe are. You obviously loved yours bud but those cars crippled a lot of people, me included finacially :(

Exactly, all I wanted was advise, I thought the ZX was a better car, but just wondered how much.

Because basically the one's I was looking at (at the top post) are more/less the same price, well give/take about £100 @ £2000

All IMO of course you simply cant compare the 2 cars they are in a different league. This is not a put down of you matey :) or your old car sarge ;)

Mate, being totally honest, the Z is timeless, looked the best in the 90''s and the same now.

When u drive one people do stop and look..seriously, they really do.

A fantastic car which deserves a little respect from the modern supercar (Lambo liked it so mutch they used the headlights)...300 HP standard (TT) and all the electrical bits.

No comparison mate.

Probe...designed for the american market, thats why its so hard to get parts. not that I am biased but come on....What do you really want...Ford or 300ZX

i take it the ones your looking @£2000 are naturally aspirated as if your buying any z for 2k then your asking for trouble again with either a probe or a z v6 24v they need lots of TLC i would make sure you see the car has been well looked after before spending £2000 on a dog id spend the extra couple of thousand on a good one you can pick up a fairly tidy z for 4k

14 here doing 12 mile round trip to and from work, but mine's an auto, stop/start all the way with only a short blast of dual carriageway.

But for me if I had a choice.......gotta be a ZED, deffo not a probe, everywhere I go there are probe's, zeds obviously a lot rarer and much much more of a headturner and as for fuel consumption, thats probably one of the last questions to ask as with this type of car its not gonna be economical to run.

not being funny matey but if u want to drive any 3 litre car in town expect 15 mpg at best. If you want economy then a Smart would be nice.

if you bought a z are you buying a TT or n/a just curious

Mate if you want town driving dont even look at the probe 24v or the Zed fella :nono: The 2 cars are in different leagues mate, (totally different)

i average around 18mpg, thats an auto, im sure manuals are the same. I rember really wanting a probe when they came out, even though i dont like fords, and now its still not a bad looking motor.

 

but i find they now look a bit dated and look quirky from certain angles, whereas the Z looks perfect from every angle, and if you intend to keep it for a while then the z, Its still got a long way to go before it will look outdated.

Probes are ridiculously cheap used and for that reason a good buy. But very different to a Z which is (arguably) a supercar.
