fuel pump

it was pointed out to me today that my fuel pump should not be constantly running as it is at the mo anyone got any ideas what it could be? fuel pump relay or control unit cheers kev

    All the time the ign is on the pump will be powered....should not be able to hear it though....what do u mean by it is on,,,?

    Reckon if u hear it then it is shagged...?

    can def hear the damn thing but i was told it should not run as it is it should reach pressure on idle then work at a lower speed so not sure i did think it could be a f***ed pump myself but got white smoke on tickover but not using any water and that was put down to fuel pump pushing to much fuel through so any ideas anyone

    Shouldnt be able to hear it at all when running. They do die occasionally
