Hi all,

A protest is being organised, please read on and contact John for updates.

Many thanks.

The time has come to stand and be counted. Enough is enough!

I’m guessing that there are many people who are getting kinda fed up with the ridiculous amounts of gatso’s kicking about and laser vans etc. etc. etc who are operating under the veil of being for safety when actually they are there to generate revenue – pure and simple.

It’s seems that the humble motorist weather it be someone who has a performance car – or classic car, or just a bog standard car is being penalised due to the over zealous speed enforcement that occurs in this country.

We all enjoy driving and we are being taxed to pieces due to petrol tax, road tax and now the speeding tax. So I propose we protest about it. Cause a bit of a commotion. Get noticed. Prove a point. Kick Off!

Basically the argument is that the speed camera is now not being used as a safety, life saving device – but a revenue device for the government – instead of being used in areas where these installations (whether fixed of mobile) would reduce accidents – they are being more commonly used in areas where it’s dead easy to catch someone slightly straying over an unrealistically low speed limit . It’s not ok any more – driving used to be a pleasurable experience – now it’s ruined due to having to spend each and every moment checking you speedometer.

I’m proposing that on the 1st August we do something.

Namely a mass protest by narked motorists who are prepared to get on the road to make a stand AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Starting at Carlisle in the early hours as many of us as possible will drive down through the country – on mass – without breaking a single speed limit – or any law. But our route (which will be decided nearer the time – for obvious reasons) will cause a great deal of congestion and disruption – but hopefully we will be backed by the majority of the motoring public, who too feel aggrieved by how the roads are now policed.

I know there are many arguments about road safety and correct driving – I’m not proposing we should protest about any reasonable law – but a law that is broken by so many, so often, is surely a law that should be changed.

If you know of other people in other car clubs, or know of other car club forums where it would be a good idea to post a link to our revolution get on there and do it.

Let me know where else this is being posted so I can get stuck in and get this co-ordinated.

NOW IS TIME FOR A CHANGE!

VIVE LA REVOLUTION!!!!

email me john@themusiccellar.fsnet.co.uk

and I'll count you in and put you on a list so that you get all the developments!

Thanks folks,

the massive majority of speeding fines are being paid by the average motorist who gets nicked when travelling at an ordinary every day safe speed.

The massive majority of speeding fines are being paid by those who are too stupid to notice a) the big numbers painted on the signs b) ditto on the road c) the brightly coloured square thing on a post d) the van with garish stripes all over it e) the plod in a hi-vis jacket pointing a hairdryer at you or f) the big white car with fluorescent yellow squares and blue flashy things on top. Or those who are too tight to invest in devices to warn them of accident black spots.

Think of it as evolution in action!

Get trained, keep your eyes on the road and not on the DVD player, PS2, seatcover etc, concentrate on your driving and you will a) have more fun driving b) be safer and c) get pulled less often for speeding, driving without due care etc and d) kill less people. Simple, innit?

Yes, too simple, and easy to say. But IMHO you are missing the point Gio. No Offence

OK so what is the point? The speed limit in this country has been 70mph since I was born (indeed sometime it was down at 50mph just to show how old I am). It's not something new.

The use of cameras is new - well, sort of, maybe 5 or 10 years new. Being pulled by jam sandwiches, plod with hairdryer, unmarked, unfair plod hiding etc etc is not new.

Sticking to the speed limit (or at least driving at such a speed as to probably not trigger a camera) is easy. Keeping an eye out for bright yellow things is easy and should be part of your road skills anyway. Keeping an eye on your speed is easy and should be part of your road skills anyway.

If people are such bad drivers they are not aware of their speed or their road environment, they deserve all they get IMHO.

As I said, your missing the point. It is not, IMHO, the "speeding" as such, but the way, the locations, the amount, the REAL reasons, the propaganda, the "going against the will of the people", the dishonesty, the excuses.

An offical from Notts was caught commenting on the amount of REVENUE they were NOT getting when they first installed a SPECS system there. He said that they had over estimated the profit from the cameras and that they would actually make a LOSS out of it, because they were too effective and cars were going slower..

How is slowing cars down making a LOSS? Surely its safer? Is this not the (claimed) reason for them all? Of course it is, BUT THATS NOT THEIR REASON for doing it. That is the POINT. So they have to cheat to make a profit.

OK so we're both missing each other's point. My point is that if you get caught by a speed camera, you weren't paying attention to your driving (mostly - not exclusively). And if you're not paying attention, you're not safe: to yourself, to other drivers and little old ladies at bus-stops.

Pay attention and you'll cut your chances of getting caught.

have to agree with scoops/big roy and gio

you pay your money and take your chance, i know there is an increase in cameras so personally i do all i can to combat them, i currently have a road angel, road pilot and a laser jammer, but i still don't consider myself immune,

but not trying to tempt fate, i have always had high performance motors and touch wood in many years have never had a speeding ticket, but if i get one

it's part of the game and i have to live with it

if i felt strongly enough i'd protest i don't so i won't, got much more important things in my life than joining a tree huggers convention, as Gio says the speed limit has been the same since year dot we all know about it, we also have to live with the fact that councils have now found a way to enforce it and make cash, so i buy items to try and make sure they don't get any of my cash, at the end of the day if a road has a speed limit of 30-40 whatever

and they put a big yellow thing up that fines people who go faster, how ever much we don't like it, if you get caught your nicked, that's life..........

and let's not pretend this is a labour thing, two of the biggest protests ever

were over closure of the mines and poll tax under the tories, result? no mines left in this country and we now have council tax, and if i remember people actually died in those protests, so i will do my little bit to evade things i believe in and enjoy mine and my familys lives

IIRC the number of accidents on the roads were falling steadily until speed cameras were introduced and then the figure leveled out and then started to rise again..... and how much of my money (and your's) have they spend on killing people......?????

LOL you know what I mean, they have not made people more cautious drivers as such just more edgy... if you are going along a bit too quick and you spot a camera on go the anchors w/o even looking to see if anyone is following too close behind..... thats the point i'm trying to get accross :slap:

i think thats the point Gio was trying to make as well m8

that people are not paying attention enough

1 -if your having to slam on when you see something

2-if the person behind has to slam on to react to your braking

of course not all situations can be avoided, as i said i invested in a couple of gadgets that can start warning you up to 1000 metres away, especially handy in areas i dont know, but the most dangerous thing is if i feel immune

and think im fireproof

Agreed ! It is importand to strike a balance between driving to your own personal style whilst still paying attention and being a SAFE DRIVER. Saying I'm seriously considering buying a road anger or snooper or whatever when i get my licence back and car on the road because I got 12 points for the next 4 years so i cant put a foot wrong :(

Roy and Brunstrum sitting in a tree ... :D:D

PMSL

Yes that's right. They dont improve road safety. But apparently that's not the point. Take it you had no luck with your insuarance btw?

Gio, you obviously dont live in Somerset, here mobile cameras are rife and can easily nick even the most observant of drivers. I think your opinions would change slightly should your clean licence acquire 3 points from a hidden trap or maybe 12 points from 4 hidden traps?

But we're British after all, so pay up and take it on the chin, follow Gio/ Scoops/ Roy/ Billy 's example, I hope you dont all get camera'd soon but if you do remember to send your 60 quids off with a smile :-)

But not the ones sticking to the speed limit:D

Ive got 3 points, caught by a laser. Did I moan? No. Did I have a go at the copper? No. Did I pay my £60 and inform my insurance company? Yes

Was I breaking the law at the time? Yes

Roy, you forgot :

Was I driving safely at the time? Probably yes?

Do I believe safe driving should be punished and what's the benefit?

I wont argue anymore, I can see you're all stuck in your ways and that's fair enough :-)

Thanks for some positive comments btw Mark.

No I was doing 172 on the M1 :hyper:  Lucky I backed off before Mr Plod saw me. Its human nature we dont like getting told off and we take it as our right to drive etc etc. I just find it funny that we take exception when we are caught being naughty. Good debate though ;)

 ok that beats me  ;)

Nope, no luck with any insurance unfortunately and also no luck selling my fiesta :(

As Ben Franklin said in 1789, there are two things certain in this world: death and taxes. Get used to it!

Don't speed on the public highway and you won't get caught. What's the problem with that?

Learn how to drive fast and well and you will lessen your chances of being caught - and improve your chances of good treatment should you be unlucky enough to get pulled.

Invest in a speed camera indicator and you too will know where the police / local authority think there is an accident black spot which needs extra care. And when that device warns you to take extra care, heed the warning.

If you want to speed deliberately and consistently, either do it in Germany, the Isle of Man or on a trackday - but ffs stop whinging if you do it on the public highway. You know the rules, the only question is are you intelligent to use them to your advantage. :D

Here here, well said that man.

problem is with the english public is were so gulible and daft, Tony blair is having a hey day in office all the lies hes said etc and no one causes him hassle

same with speeding

dont anyone give me that crap about dont do the crime dont do the time..

what about all the roads where you dont know the speed limit as theres no signs which is all planned by the government Oh I know you just presume its a 30mph when its actually a 50 or vice a versa..

speed cameras come into best affect when you go to an area yuor not use to the government are sly and know this so you most likely get flashed and a fine hey presto..

theres a road by me which is a 70 mph then suddenly theres one house set back and because of this the speed becomes 40 for about 500 yards now this is on a bend and guess what the 40 sign is hidden and theres a speed camera almost immediatley absolute money spinner and they know it!

thers plenty more like this and I think this is what annoys people :D

theres even a road coming into cannock which was a 40 and they relayed it. also they took down the speed sign put a up two more cameras and funnily enough there was a camera van parked on the island nearly every day.

anyway there was no new speed signs apart from one little board at the bottom of the road saying new speed limit applies

what fecking speed limit????????

Its a main road is it now a 50 ? a 60

or has it been took down to 30

anyway they caught so many people over the next few days as it had been took down to a 30 it was stupid..

after complaints they put some speed sign up at the start and end of the road but anyone joining the road halfway still has the same problem...

The government know exactly what there doing and think were stupid simple as!

tvrb03 - do you live near here? My grandad got caught by the camera going into Wolesley Bridge, where the limit goes from 60 to 40 (which I can see is justified and have no problem with it) but there is a camera
