lol open a can of worms :D

try both, the 300zx auto is actually a good auto box, prone to breaking down though

personally I bought a manual because I like manual boxes, :)

its totally possible to convert to manual, a lot of people have done it on here

Ouch - Risky subject. There is plenty of other threads on this if you do a search.

In terms of performance - Your not going to lose any by choosing either. In fact the Auto is slightly quicker 0-100mph.

The Auto box does'nt seem to be quite as reliable and cant take as much power (if seeking big power) as the Manual, and can also be costly to get repaired or replaced.

There is not really a "kit" to convert an Auto to Manual. What you have seen is essentially a whole Manual gearbox and everything that is needed to rip out the Autobox and fit a manual. Costs are around £1000 - £1500 for parts and labour.

:x: IMO I dont think a "Supercar/Sports car" should have a slushbox :x: and I definatly preferred the Manual after test driving about half a dozen , but you will hear from plenty of Auto owners who love their Autobox's and as far as Autoboxes go, the Zed autobox is a very good one.

Pro and Cons for both. But at the end of the day it's a Zed and go for whatever suits you best! :)

MANUAL always!

i got the auto as that was the only tranny going at the time. great box but it broke on me so i converted it. am having fun with the manual box but still miss the old automatic in a way.

if i change an auto to a manual does this cause any problem with the car or does it just change and then seem like an origional manual

In that case I would not recommend a Zed! ;)

I have an Auto and love it to bits!!

But if i could drive a manual, thats what would be on my drive!

The autobox is good when your running stock or a little more PSi, but if you start putting more power through it, it will break for sure.

mines been converted for a month and no problems yet. i'm sure there are members on here who have had theirs converted for far longer. seems like an original manual, but then again ive never driven a manual Z!

i went for the manual but have heard the auto is very good to drive, try them both :)

Mine was an auto, notthrough choice just down to the fact that it was the best zed i could find when looking for one. When the box died, i got it reconned. If I'd known then what i know now i should have converted to manual.

But what do I care , i dont have an auto zed any more, but my toy is manual and I kinda realise now what i was missing out on. Autos are great for traffic jams, but for driving, manual all the way!!!

i think im might go for an auto and get it changed as it seems the cheapest way to do it. :xxx:

either way i need to sell or part x my celica first before i can do anything.

i would prefer the manual though

Hi Bird, Sell the Celica, and then buy my manual.... I dont THINK buying an auto them converting will be cheaper....

You can have my UK manual for £4300

That means you'd have to find an Auto in comparable condition for about £2800..... Thats not going to be easy

Details in my link below, or more in the FOR SALE SECTION...

Steve

Bird, take Steve's advice. conversions ain't cheap (speaking from experience) it'd be much better to bite your lip and be patient and wait for a decent manual to appear - it WILL come along soon! You can spend the money you save uprating the clutch

I'd love to think the Manuals are selling for considerably more than Auto's, but they were all the same price when I bought mine.

Getting an Auto and converting to Manual is certainly more expensive.

WOOHOO... I GAVE SOMEONE SOME GOOD ADVICE!! Cheers Dave!!

Even better when you consider what Legrath said also....

Speaking of saving your money to get an uprated clutch..... Did I mention mine has an ACT Organic Clutch... which I'm reliably informed will handle a good deal more power than stock!!

come along and take a look at mine!!

Steve

Personally I'd ditch both the manwell and auto and go for the latest conversion available from the States...it's the Flintstone Flap convo...excellent in traffic but a bit knackering on motorways!
