Anyone ever imported a car from Jersey?

 

Have read the DVLA site (work is boring at the mo) and it doesnt appear too hard. Some weird thing about not being legal to drive a previously european registered car on its exisitng plates once youve bought it.

 

Anyone got any useful personal experience

Jersey is (sort of) GB but not EC. So it isn't like importing a car from Europe.

 

Q. I want to sell/give my car to someone in the UK.

A. The person who receives the vehicle in the UK will be liable to pay VAT on the vehicle. VAT is charged at 17.5 per cent of the value. The Jersey resident must go to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Department and surrender their registration document. They will be given a Certificate of Origin, which the new owner in the UK must present when registering the vehicle in the UK.

No worries - you should try importing a car from Sark. That's almost impossible!

It wasnt a red one was it?

No. It wasnt even a Z!! It was a low mileage (naturally on Jersey!) TVR V8 S. Chap I was sourcing it for doesnt want to spend as much as it would cost to buy the car, get there and back and pay the tax. (Think he forgot about the VAT!!!)

 

Oh well.
