What do you think of..

Well as i'm sure you are aware I am having problems re-insuring my car and I have now had to sell it :( (still for sale if anyone is interested) so i have been looking at different cars to replace it with for very cheap. So the question is do any of you own / have you ever owned any of these cars, if so can u tell me whether or not its worth buying one?

Vauxhall Cavvie 1.6

Nissan primera (around J reg)

VW Passat (around J reg)

Audi 80

MK3 fiesta

Escort (around K reg)

Also any other suggestions? Cheap cars with small engines but large enough for me, my girlfriend and my new born son? When i say cheap i mean around £500 or less for the motor!!

Cheers

Ben

I think an Astra would suit you! :D:D

 Yes, quite. Nah tbh my name isn't exactly fair, I had a very bad experience with a MK 3 astra. Have to admit the new ones are very nice indeed!

Not had any of the above. I know it's a big engine again, but have you considered a Ford Granada Scorpio 2.9i? Don't laugh!! I had one for a few years and it was a lovely motor....not tooooooo juicy, quiet, MEGA comfortable, roomy and bloody reliable!!! I know you can pick them up really cheap, and if you get one off an old couple (like I did) it will be in mint condition with perfect leather and FSH. All the gadgets to play with, 'interesting' handling, but it can still get a real move on when you put your foot down.

Only problem was that people used to come up to me assuming I was a taxi! LOL!! :slap:

Ya cant go wrong with a Nissan funnily enough. I've owned Sunny, Almera & Primera in the past & never had a spot of trouble from any. I sometimes wish I had my sunny now mate. Cheap to run, insure & very very reliable. Some may say dull but horses for courses bud.

The granadas are nice cars i know, my dad used to have one, however the insurance might take the michael (I'm selling my 1.25 fiesta because I can't afford to insure it) so a 2900cc engine might not go in my favour ;).

Found quite a nice primera on auto trader, £395 on a J plate with 90k miles...... what are they like on insurance?

I use a 1L polo as a run around. Yours for £500 if you want it.

Hmmm i used to have a 1.3 polo, F-reg probably the best car i ever had in terms of reliability, economy and general ruggedness. Any pics / spec / info? Sounds interesting.

Not got a pic at the mo unfortunatley.

Its a light metallicy blue colour. 1L Genesis, 3 door, 4 gears, 98k miles, K reg. Recent MOT and around 4 months tax (if i remember rightly)

Its damn clean inside and out. Couple of tiny specs of rust but thats to be expected. It was my sisters before but as shes moving to Miami (lucky git) i bought it to use for work etc. We've had it over a year and the only problem we've had is a blown brakelight bulb. Could do with some new brake pads as well.

They're not the prettiest of cars but plenty of room in them (for a hatch) and cost pennies in petrol. Cheap insurance too. ;)

Sounds good. Where ya based? Im very interested in this motor TBH.

EDIT: Nope, no luck. Have you got another email address?

Dude, you still interested in the Polo?

Scotty hey mate sorry i not been watchin this thread!! Yeah still interested mate, i gave you the wrong address btw, it's b.lawton@staffordcoll.ac.uk not BENLAWTON@staffordcoll.ac.uk ... apologies

Look at Citreons, especially diesels, cheap and they can be very good. Xantia and ZX.

Personally Mark, i prefer the peugeot diesels.... my father had an M reg 405 and did 260,000 miles before the clutch needed replacing and then a further 25k before he finally decided enough was enough. Lovely car though.... ran like new at 260k miles and still went like a rocket (in terms of old diesel estate cars ;) of course!)

Yes, but the Peugeot and Citreon are EXACTLY the same underneath, apart from the fluid suspension on a Xantia. A ZX is a 306, only cheaper, does not look as good, but has better trim. Engines, gearbox's brakes etc etc are the same. So if you buy a Citreon you get what your dad likes but cheaper. And nobody steals them.

 so true.... Im still interested in this Polo though, best car i ever had was a polo.... started first time every time for years and had NO problems with it in almost 12 years (my mum had it before i did)
