A/T Power Button

Hi, I hope someone can help me, I've got a 91 Zed,Jap impoted, twin turbo. I've only had her since March, and the english manual says nothing about this button, what it is for or how to use it. I haven't come across to many Imp owners here in Noosa so it's tough trying to ask someone. So I'm hoping you can help me.By the way I'm from Australia

Thanks

well basically it gives u 'power' It isnt in the UK manual cos the UK cars dont have it. Basically what it does is it makes it hold the gears for longer into the revs to give u a more satanic ride than normal. You will notice when u boot it it gives you POWER' mode for 10 seconds and it goes like a bat out of hell!

Switching to Power mode will change up at higher engine revs and will change down sooner when the accelerator is pressed. Its good around town or when racing. Switching to Hold will try and change up as soon as possible, and will not kickdown so readily. It will also not use 1st gear. It's handy when very wet or when driving on mud, I sometimes also use it on motorways to stop it changing down when I accelerate.

Stamping on the accelerator suddenly will cause power mode to be selected temporarily even in Normal or Hold modes

Have fun

Hi Annie and welcome to the forum,

Yeah I've got the same set up as you, Jap import, auto with the same button.

As the guys have said it leaves the car in gear that little bit longer for maximum acceleration.

I wouldn't worry about using it though cos really it is a bit unecessary. As if you kick the accelerator down hard enough it will stay in gear longer for max power anyway.

Thanks guys this is the first time for me on a forum I could'nt think of how else to find my info. and it was this easy.

The "Hold" button does what it says. It holds the gear - The auto box will not kick down at all in this mode!

Accellerating out of a corner and don't want the car to kick out because its kicked down a gear, try the hold button.
