The label on the seatbelts isnt I bad rough guide. My V5 says my car is a 1989, but the seatbelts wernt stamped till Aug 90 so i guess it a 90.

 Cheers guys, just looked at my boot carpet and it says 90 9 21 which means that was 21st sep 1990 but my logbook says 89 on a F plate. Maybe someone changed the carpet?

sounds like somebody guessed the age when importing like mine mate. sounds like its a 90.

I think they always knock it back a year to be safe. I imported a Celica TRD for my wife. Year it was made was 2003. We know this because they only make 300 a year and they have a Vin plate with date and prodution line number yet they have registered it as 02. Looks like a pattern is emerging :slap

well looking at the pic of your ZED looks like it just came out the show room so would say about 2 days old tops

When a car is imported to the UK the Japanese De-Reg papers give the date of first registration in Japan. This date is used by the DVLA to record the year and registration. It does not detail the date on the V5 only the year. This is not the date of manufacture but the date of first registration in Japan, which can be very different. Beware as the japanese date system is different the DVLA often get it wrong, I have had 10 year old vehicles registed as NEW by the DVLA until I pointed out their error.

The date on V5 Docs should always be date of first registration and not date of manufacturer...as it is for UK cars too.

It does not matter what it should be, I am telling you what it actually is. The Japanese De-Reg documents only give "FIRST REGISTRATION YEAR/MONTH" this is the date the DVLA use for the V5 even though it says declared date of first manufacture

on all the V5's I have it only shows "date of first registration", there is no Manufacture date. So if thats the date they get form the De-reg, then its the correct date on the V5(registration date).

Have a look on the front of the V5

Should say date of manufacture

(sorry for dragging up an old post)

ps - DVLA frequently makes mistakes.

Best I have seen is a Delica - 1990, came back registered as a 2000 X-reg

If you send me a photo of the VIN plate I can check on the FAST CD and verify the actual month of manufacture.

How about a 52 reg then! long story but a clerical error by DVLC and despite it been pointed out to them they still issued a 2002 reg plate for a 1990 zed...perfeck.
