It's not worth it, for you or others...............

A verse someone just posted, thought I'd share it with you all.............

WENT TO A PARTY, MUM

I went to a party,

And remembered what you said.

You told me not to drink, Mom

So I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,

The way you said I would,

That I didn't drink and drive,

Though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,

And your advice to me was right,

The party finally ended,

And the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,

Sure to get home in one piece,

I never knew what was coming, Mom

Something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,

And I hear the policeman say,

The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,

Mom, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,

As I try hard not to cry.

I can hear the paramedic say,

This girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,

While he was flying high,

Because he chose to drink and drive,

Now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom

Knowing that it ruins lives?

And now the pain is cutting me,

Like a hundred stabbing knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom

Tell daddy to be brave,

And when I go to heaven,

Put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.

Someone should have taught him,

That it's wrong to drink and drive.

Maybe if his parents had,

I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom

I'm getting really scared.

These are my final moments,

And I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mom,

As I lie here and die.

I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!"

So I love you and good-bye.

Perhaps you should have posted this on the thread about how much should we be able to drink and still drive.

That's just sent a shiver right up my spine. Wise words to all drivers, not just Z owners.

Ditto.

It's all good fun till someone loses an eye. Or worse.

Very moving poem, clever emotional psychology.

IMO the message should be dont get drunk and drive though, not 'dont drink and drive'.

Millions of ppl will have a drink, one pint or a glass of wine and no more (yes really) and then drive this christmas and perfectly safely and within the law. Shame about the taboo this sort of emotional propaganda brings on them.

It's OTT in comparison to the problem, you have 99.9% more chance of contracting the MRSA superbug in a hospital and dieing ( it killed 5000 ppl last year) than being hit by a drunk driver.

Hope you dont all hate me for saying what I think :-)

Yes but lets not forget that the driver in the incident ruins their life as well as they have to live with it. So it is two lives ruined.

Any amount of alcohol lowers your reaction times, why bother drinking at all and driving?

Well said..... though you forgot the dead kids family's lives which are also affected..... ;)

I stopped drinking totally for 2 years, because I had to drive to work at 3.30 AM, and I couldnt be sure how much a few beers before 11.00pm would affect me in the morning.........

I'm not preaching, you all do what you want, just IMHO

I don't agree with you at all, in fact I think you have an entirely selfish attitude to even suggest any of that. NO-ONE can say when they have had enough, even one could affect you enough to end up in an accident, and kill someone, what you are saying, IMHO, is total *****cks!! The message IS and SHOULD be DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE, period! Anything else is selfish, stupid, and irresponsible.

End of rant............... Anyone wanting to argue this point, please justify it here, as I'm more than willing to pull it to pieces :D

0.1% of 5000 is 5

Are you really saying that only 5 people were hit by drunk drivers last year???

I dont personally agree in what you are saying, nor will I hate you for saying it, BUT I think that if you are going to use stats to "justify" a VERY indefensible subject, you ought to get them right really.....

I dont believe it will help, cos at the end of the day, putting anything in your body that has a chance of altering your ability is never going to be a good thing.

That includes drink, drugs (legal or otherwise, read the lable!!) and if we want to get really picky, LACK OF SLEEP TOO!

Bottom line for me is.... If I have ANY booze during the day, thats me off the road for the rest of it.

If I had a couple with a meal etc the early evening before, I'll be OK by about mid morning the day after. Thats like a good 10 or so hours to clear 2 pints. Anymore for me is a skinful!!

If I have a skinful the evening before, thats me off the road for pretty much the next day, cos again, I cant trust that my judgement is back.

JUST MY OPINION

I wouldnt want to be in the the 0.1%... would you?

Where do you get your statistics from anyway?

http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/drinkdrive/drinkdrive01.htm

a bit more than 0.1%

Sorry to state incorrect stats, the true figure is nearer 90% not 99.9%, although it was meant as a figure of speech to express a point. So there's still a 90% greater chance of dieing from a hospital contracted bug than being killed by a drunk driver.

Im in no way suggesting that makes it acceptable to drink over the limit and drive, ofcourse it doesnt, but it does put it into perspective IMO, when we get bombarded with the dont drink and drive message every day on the tv at great expense, but hear nothing about how to help with eradicating something that kills nearly 10 times as many ppl per year.

As for lack of sleep or fatigued driving, again that's a bigger problem than drunk driving and causes more deaths per year. The govt are just waking up to that one (pardon pun) and a few ads are appearing.

The thing is though, the Super-Bug is being sorted out, by the introduction of (re-introduction of ;) ) better cleaning etc in hospitals, and this is a relativley new problem that has apperared since taking these sorts of services away. And there is little we can do, apart from making sure that, when visiting paitients in hsopital, we make sure that we take these measures.

Lack of sleep? Well this can only be combated in the way that they have been doing for a long time now, up and down the motorways in this country, and that is those signs by the motorway side............. What else can you do?

And as for being 'Bombarded' with the Don't Drink 'n Drive message, well it obviously isn't working on you, is it?

Yes I do agree with you when you say that there are other things that kill more prople than Drinking and Driving, but that's not the point, the point is to get people out of the habit of thinking that it is acceptable to do it, because it isn't!

And NO I don't hate you for you comments, I just think you're a :xxx: for thinking that this attitude is right in this day 'n age. Grow up and become a responsible Zed owner.

i remember an advert a couple of years ago that had 3 different people (all in a pub/restaurant etc.) talking to the camera. One said "I only have a couple of pints when Im out", the second said "my girlfriend always tells me when ive had enough to drink" and the third said "as long as ive had some food first i can usually stomach that extra pint".

Then the screen goes black and it says "THESE PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE"
