I actually had a guy try to argue with me on 300zx vs VR4's -_-;

needless to say he's quiet now.

both quarter mile, and top end times the Z has reached far better times. smile.gif

Z's rule!

And, BTW, be aware that there are several model available in the 3000GT / Stealth World.

Some are AWD+TT..some are not. And the cars are cosmetically VERY close.

NA

Dodge Stealth ES

Dodge Stealth R/T

And many "victories" are in fact done on N/A, FWD cars.

I used to own a Z TT Manual, I now have a GTO TT Manual. The GTO is much faster, all my mates have driven both cars and they all say the same.

I wouldn't say much faster. I raced a GTO in my Z on the A55 and he couldn't get away but I wasn't gettin' passed either.

Off the roud-a-bouts he was pulling away but once me Z got into her stride I was catching him up. Pretty even to be honest and his was TT manual with big fuck off zorst aswell! So maybe some tweakin' had been going on.

My Z? Auto and at that time quite poorly, so I think it's quite a fair comparison to be honest...both cars are quick by any standard! wink.gif

The car that you have me thinks is not standard. Prob about 450bhp, which would mean that is has new exhaust, airfilter and been chipped to increase the boost. Just hope that the rest of the engine and gear box can take it.

My mate raced a 3000GT or GTO (whatever) in his lightly modded 200sx - and beat it! Not by a huge amount, but definite win.

Who were you directing that at Stu mate?

My car was standard at the time, only mod. that I was aware of afterwards was Turbo Technics Actuators.

All the mods I keep going on about aren't even fitted yet! Can't wait! wink.gif

the GTO guy, jthompson300, the person who I bought my car off

Ahhhh, got ya! wink.gif

So he sold a Z and got a GTO eh? Not the worst choice of car! Nice!

Has it got the active rear spoiler etc???

How does that work anyway? Is it like the Porch 911's etc. Hit 50 odd and the BBQ deploys?

Have you seen the new ones...WTF have they done there...awful! They've taken industrial rubber that used to join British Rail carriages together and used it as a consateena(fuck knows how you spell that?) cover for the new Porch rear active spoiler!

It looks ARSE!

jthompson300 has a Red 1992 GTO Twin Turbo I think that has the active front and rear spoiler, I think its got a switch for manual and auto operation meaning go over a certain speed and it will activate.

Trev

I had a GTO Twin Turbo and bought a Z! I owned the GTO for 4 months and I didn't like it that much. There is very little between it and the Z performance wise, although from about 70 up the Z is faster (slightly) in corners the Z leaves it for dead and handles much better with much more feedback, unless it's raining in which case the Z ends up backwards through a ditch!

Horses for courses. You drive what you like cos you like it. I have heard that driving a GTO is very detatched because of the technology. There is little feel to the car.

But people with GTO's will disagree. I know for a fact that his car is not standard cos I emailed John about changing my number plate and he sent me a picture of the car and he said its about 450bhp which is not standard. Standard is about 300bhp and cos of the 4wd it looses power going through 4 wheels instead of 2.

I have discusses this with my friend, that you cant really compair different cars too much. The GTO was designed with different uses in mind. Speed round the twisties, while the Z is speed and power while not going through too tight corners.

Stuart

Both cars are very similar in pure perf

Both cars are "japanese supercars"...as is the supra / RX-7 TT / NSX / Lexus SC400 / Skyline...etc....

You cannot go wrong with any of these.

They have thing in common

V6 / Twin Turbo / All Wheels Steer systm / around 300 HP

They are GT, and not "pure race cars"

Quite easy to modify to 400 HP range

None are a 1/4 mile car, and both are designed for driving pleasure, and twisty roads.

There are differences

Longitudinal / Transverse Engine

AWD / RWD

No AUTO for the 3000 Turbo

No Jim Wolf for the 3000..in fact, you CANNOT change the chip.

And many more....

Each car have plus....and minuses....strong and bad points.

The AWD erases the driving sensations..

The 3000 GT is smaller....and heavier

The 3000 GT loses a max of 95 HP through the transmission (it's about half for the Z)

The 3000 GT can pull sooner out of a corner

Brakes on both cars MUST be upgraded to offer acceptable performance (at least, to me)

The 3000 GT is easier to drive....but harder to drive WELL from a performance point of view.

Knowing whose car is faster ....

pointless

and depends a lot on the driver.

I know as a fact that when I drive both cars, on the same trip (about 500 km), my average speed is damm close to identical....so in the long run...they perform roughly the same....

Until there is 10 cm snow on the road....then....well, the Z is a little bit harder to drive.....but brakes better..

That's about it....

Zee you

3000gt's are nice cars, but is the slowest on quarter mile stock to stock of all japanese super cars as pictured in motor trend's specs, the last few years the 3000gt housed 300hp stock, in which the earlier years held 320hp, later years held only 300 as so did the 300zx with 280hp in the 96 versions, after weight difference, awd and etc is concerned, it is a close race, but under all conditions I feel the 300zx is cheaper to reach a performance people would be happy with, correct me if I'm wrong, but viewing 300z's (sn) dyno charts with a few modest mods, I find it hard to believe a 3000gt could do it within that modest of mods for the price.

Have a look at

I bought a J reg GTO TT 60/40 4wd dump valves up graded turbos open air filters lowered mildly auto front dam and rear spoiler blah blah blah v/nice to drive BUT completely devoide of bum clenching fear for a supercar cos it handled pretty much everything with ease(mind you I'm not a brilliant driver) The ZX however is MUCH MORE FUN FUN FUN specially the ability to turn on the spot and frighten the living poop outta' yer passanger now for an 11 year old auto that cant be bad!!! PS sold the GTO to buy a supra but didnt get that far cos I had to replace me girlfriends upside down MGF which I must say handled better upside down than it ever did on the rubber WOOOPS!!!!

VR-4 the GTO? I never make that link anymore, I always think of the Galant VR-4 whenever someone mentions VR-4... btw what's everyone think of that model?
