NZR: saab 9000 2.3 turbo

Needed a new 2nd car, as my wee crappy 87 XR2 finally failed its checkup with major skin cancer.

So... managed to get a 1990 Saab 9000 2.3 turbo for 1200 quid.

Leather, more gadgets than the space shuttle (cruise, climate, computers, sun sensor, bla bla), 200hp, 250 ft/lbs.

0-60 6.6secs

140 mph.

But it's the in gears that are amazing.. similar grunt to the 300 here..

The thing is mad as a tree.. leaps towards the horizon when the turbos kick in... class.

If yer looking for a cheap larf, get one today!

Also, since it's over 10 yo, firebond insure it for 100 quid! ... the only thing I've found good about being over 30 so far.

Famed for their power & performance, plus turbo lag you can measure on a calendar !!!! biggrin.gif

wink.gif Nice one Stu, I'll always have a fondness for the Saab brand. Had a 1986 900 Aero. which used to scare the crap outta me BRO so much so that he now owns one! biggrin.gif

Mine had covered 186,000 miles when I chopped it in for the Soup Turbo and it was still mad for it big time! Bless me Saab!

Wouldn't mind a later 9000 Aero. about P-reg or so...satanic! Just biding my time 'till the prices drop a little further...then it'll be bye-bye Kirk! wink.gif

Always fancied a 2.3 Carrlson meself.

Loads of motor for the money, or a 900 turbo 16v with leather, yeahhhh

I like Saab.

If ABBA had had band members called Steven, Andrew, Anthony and Brian - they would have infact been known as SAAB, which would have been nice smile.gif

Believe SAAB's are officially the safest cars on the road too. Not only are they built stronger than a Chieftan tank (with working air filters), but they are not driven by blind old duffers who think that God (or their local equivalent) is on their side !

Senna.... I can't help noticing your worrying 'saab' band has not burds in it...

Yeh Carlsson is good, but not too different from the 90 2.3.

Basically saab cocked up with it, by releasing a 200hp motor, with 250ft/lbs of torque.

Joe fuckwit cares not a jot for torque, so next year it was renamed the 'aero' with different split.

Apparently (this is all from Jack from the board here) it was one of the best engines saab made.

TCS ain't working at the mo right enough so it's a bit mad trying to control all those ft/lbs through the front wheels.

Oh I love Saabulouses, Sven as my Bro calls his 900 Aero.

Strange Scandic beasts to say the least, don't know about the 9000 Stu but my 900 was front wheel drive with a North to South engine...LARGE!

Also, be careful about pulling a handbrake turn, 900's had the handbrake attached to the front wheels which I only found out luckily from a mobile tuning guy! Good job aswell, that would have been interesting seeing the front fishtail instead of the arse end! wink.gif

Have they worked out where to put the ignition key yet, or is it still down by the handbrake ?

biggrin.gif Yep was on mine, and the steering lock which is activated by putting the car in reverse before taking the ignition key out! biggrin.gif

That baked my noodle first time after a service at Sven Main Dealer...had to go in and ask them on the service desk, how to get my car ouuta reverse gear! Nutty vehicles but very well built! wink.gif
