Tom Strong: Issues 1-7

How Tom Strong Got Started

Synopsis: A little boy, Timmy Turbo, gets his membership package from the Strongmen of America. Included, there is a comic book detailing how his hero, Tom Strong, got started. Timmy reads it on the way to school, while Blimp Bandits attacking his cable-care, are thwarted by Tom Strong. In the comic, Timmy learns of Tom's youth in the gravity chamber, the earthquake that killed his parents, his transformation of Attabar Teru, his first battle with Saveen, his wedding to Dhalua, and the creation of his sidekicks, Pneuman and King Solomon, and the birth of his daughter Tesla.

Review: An eventful issue, to say the least. Witnessing the growth of such an iconic hero from the ground up was like watching the birth of a legend. Tom Strong is a throwback in many ways, and, as odd as this sounds, this is a good thing. The story-within-a-story works tremendously well, and the single most disarming part of the issue is when Tom reveals why he took extra care to dispatch those particular Blimp Bandits - he wanted to make sure Timmy gets to school on time"
