Read this as a warning guy's, take it from me.

After an evening of banter on the forum last night, I sat in my new reclining leather chair, for half an hour in front the TV, before showering and bed, with that, my middle daughter came down stairs, covered in sick, complaining she didnt feel well. So me and the wife went up stairs, sorted her bed, got her cleaned up, went to leave her room, and noticed the youngest daughter had also been sick in her sleep. So once again, stripped her bed, cleaned her up, new bedding, and put her back in. Wife then says that she thought she could smell GAS!! Told her not to be silly, but had a look at the boiler, and checked the cooker, could'nt see or smell anything out the ordinary, so left it and went back downstair's. After a bit, went upstairs for a shower, having a sniff along the way, getting a bit paranoid, but could'nt really smell nothing. A bit later wife comes up the stair's, and it's the, "I can deffinatly smell gas, you need to look for it, go on, blah, blah, blah". So I went back on to the landing, and yes there was a smell. So at midnight last night, im pulling up floor boards on the landing checking gas pipes, and yes, there was a leak. Shut the gas off. Called the Gas board out, and give them there due, as I had all the boards up, he sorted it. But, I still feel really bad inside that my family were in danger, and I didnt really listen. I dont know if your aware, gas isnt poiseness anymore, but it will make you ill.

From now on, im having my system checked 6 monthly, and for all of you who hav'nt, do it!! I dont know how long it's been leaking, and I know the leak was minimal, but as a smoker, it was a bomb waiting to go off!!

It's one of those thing's you read in the paper, knowing that it wont happen to you, it can, it happened to me, get it checked, please!!

On the up side, kids are of school, and im off work for the day, so its a day with the family, It could have been the first of many days without them!!

B100dy hell mate! That's scary, glad that nothing worse happened...like you said it could've gone up if it had ignited.

Jeez that doesnt even bare thinking about!

It took a bit of convincing but you did the right thing in the end - there's a warning there to all of us!

Christ man, close call. Glad your all ok. its one of those things you dont really think expect to happen, but it does.

Blimey!!

Glad everyone is ok, that could of been a lot worse, a deffo reminder to us all!

All the best

Rich

Bloody hell Neil,am glad that everyone is OK,It just goes to show how easy bad things can happen. As a Landlord I have to get my property checked out every year to make sure all the Gas appliances are fine.

If this does bother you, you can get Gas detectors and CO detectors that work just like a smoke alarm. I've got a CO detector in the boiler cupboard simply because I think CO is one of the deadliest gasses out there - odourless, colourless, nasty shit :(

jebus Neil, Glad u and the family are ok! Lesson learnt... I'm on Gas too!

Glad you are all ok mate. We always think these kinda things happen to other people and not us! Take it easy fella and enjoy your day off!

Jeezzzz Shunter. As a father of 2 , I think I will invest in a CO detector aswell.

Glad everyone is ok though!

 When was the last time you had yout gas system tested. Should be once a year. You must also use a GORGI registered installer, find one in yellow pages and get it done asap. Co2 is the killer. Be safe and get a gas safety certificate done ask for it by that name. Also ask to see his ID card before he does the work, look at exp.date on the card look at photo still some installers with old cards or incorrect details this means they are NOT registered DO NOT USE THEM. Be safe with gas.

My gas system was completely checked over, by a corgi registered guy in January, and all was ok. This is my point, if i'd waited till January for another check over, my family could have been dead!!!!

Sorry if im making a big thing of this, and you guy's who know me, know im a big guy who dont scare easily, but this is really serious, for piece of mind, get it checked, or as Duffman says, get a detector!!

Thank's for all the well wishes, and I do really appreciate it, but Im not doing it for me, it's for you guy's, and girl's.

Please, Please dont let it happen to you

glad your all ok. like a few have said before Co2 is the killer and a detector is a must if you got gas in your house. as is a fire alarm. not wanting to scare but most people who die in house fire's are dead before the fire gets near them due to toxic gases. there are 2 types of smoke alarms: ionisation and optical.

ionisation alarms are the cheapest and most available on the market. they are sensitive to "flaming fire's", eg,chip pan fire's and will detect fire before the smoke gets too thick

optical alarm's are more expensive, better at detecting "slow burn fire's" eg, smouldering foam filled furniture and over heated electrical wiring. optical alarm's are less likely to go off accidentally and are best for ground floor hall way's.

No alarm's are any good if they aint working so CHECK THEM BATTREIES. THEY ARE LIFE SAVERS. if you want any advice just call at your local fire station and they should be only too happy to come to your home and give you advice on alarm's and night time routine's or

im guessing your a fireman then :)

sorta give's it away don't it :) but you wunt beleive the number of people that don't have any alarms. or take out the batt's for the remote control's :xxx: £40 is enough to make your house safer. Co2 alarm n a couple of fire alarms. any way a lighter note

don't leave it till thenspend it tomorrow remember the advert where the dad is looking at the house holding a kids toy i think. well it does happen. it's only the cost of a full tank of fuel for the zed to put this right.dont be afraid to ask for advice from your local fire boy's and girl's that what you pay for. advice on alarms night time shut down's. eg electrical stuff to turn off escape plans etc. they'll advise on it all. :)

you wouldnt believe it- my 7 yr old girl has just chucked her guts for the 2nd time this night. :( Poor little thing came in from swimming this evening feeling rough and we thought she was just trying it on. Doh!

But ya right me need to make that call. Check me smoke detectors too for good measure.

Fook dude, not good :(

Out heating packed up, pump went and boiler died, had it replaced and was leaking carbon m for a while. Good job we bought a detector and spotted it!!!

Gas aint something to play with, glad you spotted it, and dont feel bad mate, just think, YOU fixed it! so in reality you did something good! ;)

sorry no mate you had a gas leak not incompleat combustion ie CO2 so chill mate boilers and gas in houses are very safe. some systems are not Corgi get 93 Mil per ann. off me and my mates and some of them have not fitted a boiler at all, but they can do a lot of paperwork !!!! 30 people a year bit the bullett from co2 how many of us are killed on the road. Must keep in per. Or we will all pay 93 Mill to gov. and corgi. Thank god I live in the U.K. and I can Post this on the web and not be sent to Irak !!!! But we all pay to live here.Don't pay every 6 months U>K> regs say 6. Dont pay X 2. as we all do !!!

 P>S> Smell gas pick up the phone call Transco. If no smell of gas you are ok to service your boiler once a year. Same as doing the oil in your zed every 5 miles :nono: :nono: Be safe but dont kill it they want you to think it is not safe but trust me it is ok once per Ann.

not sure i understood any of that? so 30 people a year die of carbon monoxide

per year, (though id dispute that and say more) ONE IS TO MANY

recently in our town two teenagers died, and the girl was pregnant:(

i think you'll find Shunter was giving everyone a wake up call, so were you saying don't bother with six monthly checks cos only 30 people die??

yep more people die on roads, but ive never seen anyone die in their own bed in their car:(

and as Shunter had a gas leak, it could have wiped out a whole street

taxis have to have tests every six months, and i spend lots more time in my house than i do in a taxi

and as they say a corgi aint just for christmas but all year round :nelson:
