I know a few of you are IT bods as wells as me, can you advise....

Need a new server roughly the following spec

2.8ghz P4 or similar Xeon (are the Xeons that much quicker?)

1GB RAM

160gb disk space(3x80gb) (Need raid5 controller, preferably IDE cos its cheaper and isnt going to be that busy a server only handful of users)

Any ideas whats best to buy, dell is cheap(ish) about £900 for something like this, just wondered if there were any cheaper brand or unbranded (if thats a good idea) and where to get them from... on a bit of a tight budget...

Cheers

Dave

£900? Will that includer the 5 discs for the raid?

900ish included 3 x 80gb disks (IDE), only need 3 minimum for raid 5 striping with parity (data, data, parity, ad-infinitum) no hot spare....

im guessing by that 900 is a bloody good price?

thanks mate, just got it, you even specced the whole system up for me!!! cheers!! looks like a bloody bargain. thanks!

No probs mate, make sure you do a little reading on the kit and make sure it will do the job you need it too.

Sure it would run very sweetly though.
