Nah she'll love it mate. My missus likes our 15" Sahrp LCD so much that she is up for getting the 37" version when it comes down in price a bit from the £4000 it currently is!!!

That they do! Me got 3 LCD monitors on my computers, but wanting to go flat for the telly. Me had my old 32" normal screen sony for 12 years now and it wont die. Maybe I should keep a plant on top of it and water it regularly- pop-fiz- bang ;)

But if I had 4k spare, I'd buy a good zed!

Mike

lgs/samsugs/daewoos etc etc

i wouldn't bother m8, hang out for the panosonic/pioneers etc

i bought a 42" daewoo, then swopped it for an lg, then a techwood (which is either a rebadged lg or samsung), so eventually got a panasonic, and the difference is amazing,

still got the techwood (nice 3 year warrentry so will be falling of summat soon lol)

anyone want to buy it can have it for a grand, the resolution on the panasonic is soooooooooo much better, so id say save for the better makes;)

I'd agree. Went plasma shopping a couple of weeks ago, looking at LG, Daewoo etc 42" and wasn't impressed with the picture quality at all, especially when compared to the 37" LCD.

The Mrs will love it and not think it was a waste of money in the slightest!

.........post up a pic of the bruises later.

How to kill a sony tv:

Take it to your car, lie it in the boot on its screen and go for a bumpy drive. Before you take it out, put it vertical and let it rock over onto its front one more time. This should nicely dislodge the scan coils on the back of the tube and make the picture go blurred with the wrong colours, usually mainly green.

HTH :D:D:D

I see Mike went quiet just after 18:01 last night, I presume she got back shortly after that  :D:D:D

CheerZ,

Andy

Oh, yeah, that technique only seems to work on Sonys from that particular era - if you really like your sony tv (somehow I doubt that :nelson: ), DO NOT lie it on its screen LOL

Kirbz - watch out for Samsung mate

I had a 42" plasma for £3500 a few months ago

pile of shite!!!

looked terrible - Had them come out to it and all I was told is thats the best they look!!!

Had to develop a fault on it to get them to take it away!!!

Got meself a 36" Panasonic Widescreen TV now - blows the plasma out of the water for quality.

I personally wouldnt touch plasma for the next few years.

Apparently plasma screens only last 2-3 years, after that the quality starts to go down hill quickly.

I have never been a huge fan of plasma screens, they look good from a distance, but when you get clost, they are terrible.

yep, my samsung was terrible up close

they tend to show blocky tv too, cable (supposedly rated better than sky) compression was too much on a screen that size anyway.

My other half moaned coz Judge Judy was unwatchable - result ;)

as i said you get what you pay for, my 42" panny is in the bedroom

and i certainly wouldnt put up with any kind of poor quality picture

hence the changes until we found this, with the others i was forever changing the settings to match football, then summat else, or rgb on the sky

set the panasonic up and not had to touch it once

and as for lasting 2-3 years i think its another myth

on average a plasma SHOULD last 20,000 to 30,000 hours. After this time the plasma screen will only be at around half the

original brightness. If you used your plasma screen for 5 hours a day every day it would last over 10 years, so 7-8 hours per day is 7-8 years

and if you watch it anymore than that your in prison

how many on here have a tv 10 years or older??

deffo not the same life as a rear projection or normal tv

but i'll worry about that when i buy the next one;)

theres loads of do's, do nots between lcd and plasmas

ie plasmas are better viewed from anywhere, lcd are better static etc etc

this aint very scientific but heres pictures of both telly's with text on the screen, and the difference from the two photos is the same as when your watching, (maybe some distortion in the background as i had to reduce them both to fit on here)

(the one with travel on is the techwood)

Just been doing a little research as you have all put me off the samsung ;)

Now looking at a Hitachi 42PD5200 at just over £1900 and gets very very good all round reviews!!

Come on any comments???

Kirbz

Back from pub, and somebodys jumbled all the keys up!

if your buying a plasma look at the BLACKS as the chheper

units have old processing technology and can only produce

greeny black. you dont notice it till you have seen the new

picture engines (ie newer chips) this accounts for the picsleated

monement in the compression!

so the sony rep told me in Currys as i was buying a kettle!

Iv just got a 42inch Panasonic plasma and i must say the picture i find is far better than my 3 year old Sony CRT flatron. When you get up close to the plasma yes the picture does look pixelated but once your 5 or 6 foot away from it the pictures superb.

Picture is okay, for £1400 its not bad at all.

I may get an LCD when they come down in price over xmas, they produced WAY to many LCDs predicting massive sales which havn't happened yet so they will soon have to drop the price to get rid of them.
