Hi

Our current estate for lugging the baby buggy etc round with is a Vectra 140SRi but I'm looking to sell this and buy a different estate car. But although it has FVSH the mileage is now over 140k so I want something with less.

It needs to be cheap :D £2-3k'ish and not dreadfully slow :nono: Something like the Vectra I guess, stiff suspension and a bit of grunt.

The quick search on the net has thrown up the Mondeo ST24 Estate as an idea but these are rare.

Subaru Legacy - anyone driven/owned one?

What others have people had bad/good experience with? :hyper:

Cheers

impreza wrx estate :nelson:

Shrimple Why an estate car? Why not just any other shite common bread and butter daily drive? LOL you going Dogging at weekends or something? ;)

We're picking up our Legacy estate next week, so I'll be able to tell you exactly what they're like! ;)

Should be pretty good, 2.0 twin turbo, 280bhp, only downside is it's an automatic :(

Although you'll probably need a bit more than £3k to get a good one.

My Mondeo, its a beaut!! I'll chuck in the rattling zorst for free! ;)

Just done a search on autotrader, you'll be able to get a Legacy for £2k-£3k, theres even a really nice looking one on there for £1,600 but the gearbox slips in 3rd and 4th.

Mac yeah we do ;)

Chunk muhahahahaa, after the test drive today I'll give you 8p for it :D;)

SOLD TO THE SHRIMPMIESTER

Citroen Xantia?

The 110bhp TD is surprisingly quick and without the passengers realising they're going fast - if that makes sense.

Yeah, Turbo Diseasal Xantia, I have one pretty good and cool suspension too ! LOL

They also do a V6 if you like munching petrol.

 Do you do finance mate? :D

As it's you..........

A good friend of mine has a Legacy GT-B (spec B, or something) - sounds the same only it's a manwhel (as all good cars should be ;) lol) - he absolutely loves it.. Not as fast as the GTI-R he had before (obviously) but still quick, luxurious (seriously, it was lovely inside) good ride.. Though he's not so keen on the brakes - but I think he's hoping a decent set of pads will sort that out :)

They even have a trick exhaust - over a set rpm/boost pressure a solenoid flips a valve in the exhaust and bypasses most of the backbox - and that came standard.. pretty neat :)

All thats gone wrong on his so far is the aircon clutch sheared off (the rubber backplate) - new clutch salvaged off a second hand aircon compressor and bob was his mothers cousin, job done..

What about a volvo Tsomething or the other meant to be tuneable and have a decent website, but it is a volvo, I'll get me coat!

volvo T5R known as The Ballistic Brick. 4WD 250 to 300bhp dependant on model. The Rica replacement ECU stage 1 chip knocks em up to 320bhp with no extra mods. Go all the way with them and you can see 400+ with rock solid reliability. I'll get mine too.

P.S. once you've had one. What ever you drive at the weekend you'll always have a T5 as a daily drive. So far I've had 1x 850 T5, 1x 850 T5R  and C70 T5 with type R ECU, brakes and suspension.

Nice one Mark - I'll take that off your hands for my budget of £3k :slap:;)

Cheers everyone, some good ideas  Off to look at Legacies & sovloV :hyper:. Not Citroens though, they fall apart dont they? ;)

For £3k you'll get a good tidy 850 T5 Estate if you shop around. I promise you it's true. T5R will cost anything from £3500+ for a saloon and £5500+ for an Estate. Have a look T5 owners club web sit cars for sale.

ill have to agree with the xantia as i was amazed how well it drove with my zeds autobox in the boot, suspension just leveled itself back out. i do think the driving position on them are crap though and the electrics are dodgy.

I just tried but all I could see for sale was pipes, slippers, and who had the best West Highland white pups for sale

   ;)

Agreed, Citroen electrics are always rubbish, but the cars are cheap as chips and the diesels run forever. People are scared of the funny nitrospastic suspension, but it's just about as simple as suspension can get and only costs £20 a corner to fix - try getting decent shocks for that ! Also, mine does about 45mpg, so that's over 600miles on a gallon less fuel than you can squeeze into a Z tank !!

Plus of course you can raise the boost on the turbo diesels ;)

My mate kept up with me on a Honda SP-2 in his Xantia TD on the Cat and Fiddle pass (Buxton to Maclesfield)!

It was wet though and I'm a wuss on a bike.

ETREME MODIFICATION :D

Have a look at the Honda Civic Aerodeck 1.8 vtec, I've just sold one and was very impressed by it. Its about 180 bhp standard and revved its nads off.

Handled quite well for an estate.

I gotta say I am considering selling my 2nd Z that I originally bought for an everyday driver and getting a Volvo 850 T5r..
