Read a bit in the press about this lately so I decided to give it a try, been using it all morning and it seems really bloody good! might be my imagination but it seems faster than internet explorer. also lacking the myriad of security vulnerabilities in IE!!

give it a try if you;re that way inclined!! :D

Been using it, untill i go into the Chat Room that I own, and it wont load

Other than that it works well :D

It is a very good browser. I particularly like the extensions and the all in one gestures you can do with the mouse. Quite handy.

been using it a while now (on a mac) and think it's great... better than having to swap between safari and IE (to use inline baning!?!?).

There's a feedback section on the mozilla page somewhere... apparently they're pretty keen/ quick to fix any bugs that are reported - maybe worth a try?

rich

Been using it for a few days now and its fine,I dumped my IE as I was told of security risks by an expert LOL

Who? Pete R?  PMSL ;)

sill using IE, firefox is okay, going through the fad stage atm so development will be driven by the userbase,

a correctly configured XP should be secure when using IE.

You should never run as Administrator to avoid spyware,

run XP sp2 will fix any IE security holes which have not been addressed with patches.

make sure you are up to date with windows update.

Firefox will not stop you getting viruses, you should still employ a good virus scanner and firewall.

Even though you are using firefox to browse IE is still integrated massively into the XP OS, when opening outlook, outlook express, incredimail, MSN messenger and other utilities IE HTML rednering engine will be fully or partly loaded into these applications.

Stupid ****! you are an expert in total *****cks

LMFAO no ones disputing that mac   :D

If you have it, try the addblock add on. No more banner advertising! Not even the ones at the top of 300zx.co.uk. Sorry advertisers!!!! Can allow pages to load faster, as a lot of banner advertising accesses other servers and sometimes you have to wait for them to respond.

So use Thunderbird for email ;) And find alternative chat clients (like Trillian, though that could use the MSHTML engine I suppose)

Firefox is a much better web development platform - develop in firefox and you'll need minimal (probably zero) tweaks to support Opera/Safari/etc and a few tweaks to make IE play nice (with it's broken box model) - develop in IE and you end up having to put in a zillion hacks to make Firefox/Opera/Safari/Konqueror etc play nice ;)

what about MS help :D? does windows update work in firefox also?

these things are all integral to peoples lives, and not very many people know that they use MS rendering engine. At the end of the day the only way to get rid of it is to install linux :) (or get a Macincrap)

Az are you running Firefox?

I am indeed m8, have been for a while - I only use IE when absolutely forced to ;)

True - but that's no excuse for using IE for day to day browsing ;) You're just opening yourself up to more vulnerabilities for no good reason.. (As you can tell, I don't believe SP2 will 'fix everything' like MS tell us it will..) So I use Firefox for all my general work, and IE only gets run when I'm testing developments (so I have IE 5.01, IE 5.5 and IE 6 all installed here - hows that for vulnerabilities.. ) or when I really need to (like Windows Update or sites that are b0rked in anything other than IE) ;)

nothing is 100% secure, its just how quickly it is patched that matters.

Well thats good enough for me then,Firefox is now staying bananagif.gif bananagif.gif bananagif.gif

Yep - and in my experience, OpenSource projects are patched quicker than MS products - and have less vulnerabilities to start off with thanks to peer review of the code.

Anyhow, as far as MS are concerned IE is a dead product - it will go through no more major revision changes unless you all upgrade to Longhorn, so the chances of IE ever becoming a standards compatible browser for most people are nil..

Anyway, tabbed browsing rocks ;)

i'm not saying don't use firefox,

i'm saying its not wise to think because you use it that you are removing the possibility of all problems.

Rememer that most major trojans/exploits recently have been due to people not being patched, even when MS have released the patches many months before the worms/trojans are released, there is absolutely no reason why this will change with firefox. Infact I just installed the final release of firefox and its crashed a lot more than IE and the beta firefox i was running.

After building so many brand new system for family friends etc, this statement is so so so so so so so so true...I have learnt the hard way...and wasted days....

Get your system fully spec'd first, all Office Patches, XP patches and run a utility like MBSA, it'll find out and seek all currently known vulnerablities and advise on how to amend this.

I have got this off to a fine art and surf some pages that I know the code is bugged to high heaven and all my systems have tested OK.

Well said mike.... ;)

Anyway, tabbed browsing rocks ;)

Absolutely. I have been using Fireflap (fox) for quite a while now and I am very impressed. I have to keep IE just like you for development purposes as well as a few others ...

IE is toss.

IMHO

i'm saying its not wise to think because you use it that you are removing the possibility of all problems.

Agreed - and we should all be keeping our systems patched up to date etc (I know I am, and running a virus scanner, hardware firewall, regular adware/spyware scans etc etc)

there is absolutely no reason why this will change with firefox.

True, but Firefox does have less vulnerabilities in it in general, AFAIK - though thats not to say that new exploits won't be found, just as they are in Windows, they just seem to be fewer and farther between.

Infact I just installed the final release of firefox and its crashed a lot more than IE and the beta firefox i was running.

Odd - I can count the number of times any release of Firefox has crashed on me - zero.. (And I'm not exaggerating..) I'm counting from 0.8 there, I hadn't tried it when it was still called Firebird (or any of the other gazillion names it had ;))

Calm down calm down its only a browser LOL:D;)

Your browser is probably the No2 way for all infections to enter your PC though ;) (Assuming you're running a decent firewall and antivirus software.. If you're not then there's no hope  ) Your email software being No1, though Thunderbird is considerably less vulnerable than Outlook/Outlook Express :)

Calm down calm down its only a browser LOL:D;)

Lynx is the way forward   ;)

At the end of the day, Microsoft is the one thats targeted 9 times out of 10, why?

Cus its so bloody good......hence why most of the world ude their products...Its the arseholes that create the viruses that makes the software sh1t, making it crash, not boot etc etc and thats what most lament users see and experience without proper knowledge of how to reduce the risks.

I do like Apple's though, loads of eye candy and the processor speed of the Apple is about 3 times as good as a pentium....but thats not Microsofts doing.....

bananas are nice too though! lol :D
